BRUU The Gourmet Tea Club 2016: January Box

DSC_0085Another month passes by and we are soon into the new year, a new month also means a new box of BRUU which is nice because I somehow managed to misplace my last box, thankfully my new box has arrived and so I can finally enjoy fantastic Tea once again.

We got another letter which I think we will get in every box, this months letter spoke about the new year and how you can now enjoy a new Teatox range and yes that is a pun for detox its essentially a new line tea for people who are looking lose weight or commit to regular fitness, I wouldn’t mind trying a sample of this myself as I may have over indulged myself a tiny bit over the holidays, they also mention the shortbread company Walkers and no its not the same as the crisp company, Walkers were kind enough to supply us with some short bread biscuits which are the perfect treat for a Tea box as Tea and biscuits go hand in hand, we were also supplied with some Sutton seeds (A type of flower) unfortunately I wont be planting these as I have a naughty dog who will happily destroy them, I have however made sure to donate them to my mother who loves gardening so they haven’t gone to waste.

Now to the most important part the Tea

Japanese Cherry Green

DSC_0088

This is a Tea inspired by an ancient Japanese tradition called Hanami where people would sit underneath cherry blossom trees and would appreciate the beauty of the blossoms, looking at various types of flowers was also a smaller part of the tradition and it makes me wonder if the inclusion of the Sutton Seeds was in reference to this, it was a really interesting blend because it doesn’t use too many ingredients but it has a really good taste, I found that it tasted like ordinary green tea at first but once I swallowed a mouthful it left a taste of cherries and overall it was a very nice blend of Green Tea.

Turkish Delights

This blend uses a traditional Chinese oolong tea leaf, The first thing you will notice is its very sweet and fruity smell, it reminded me of the Turkish delight candy but I’m not sure if that was the idea and if it was then BRUU deserve some serious brownie points, I didn’t find that it tasted of Turkish Delight but I did really enjoy the flavors that were there, to me it tasted slightly sweet and reminded me of a weak green tea but its a really good tasting weak green tea if that makes any sense.

Rukeri Rwandan Black

This is a really basic blend of two types of leaves Rwandan Black Tea and Orange Pekoe, on the letter in the box it states that this blend can be spicy, I didn’t find it to be spicy at all but I did find that it tasted quite strongly of Orange Peel which a lot of people will tell you is not a very nice taste but here it seems to fit the Tea really well because it for some reason tasted really good and that’s just another example of the talent that goes into making these unusual Tea’s

Overall this was a very good box, I would say that I prefered this over the last box as it packs a little more flavor but so far all the boxes I have received have been great.

Lets see what February brings

BRUU The Gourmet Tea Club 2015: December Box

DSC_0085

I received my very first box of BRUU today and honestly I didn’t know what to expect as I have never joined a subscription service before.

For those wondering BRUU is a tea club that sends its members different types of home grown loose tea every month, I personally am a big tea lover but I have never had loose tea before so this was definitely a brand new experience for me.

What first shocked me was the contents, I only expected three bags of tea but I was also greeted with a Christmas Card, a letter, some Haribo sweets, A chocolate and a scented candle, I was shocked at just how well BRUU seemed to know me even though this was my first box, I love tea but I also love Haribo’s, chocolates and scented candles all the same so this was a very pleasant surprise.

Before discussing the different Tea’s I would first like to talk about all of the extras, first of all the chocolate was delicious it was a classic milk chocolate but you could definitely notice the difference in quality when compared to the branded stuff, this was much nicer it had a finer texture and it was very milky I personally thought it tasted like a posh hot chocolate which I found to be very interesting.

The scented candle reminded me of christmas trees which is very fitting, as you may know the Pine Tree (Christmas Tree) has a very distinct scent compared to other trees, the smell is very sweet and natural and is a very fitting scent to add to a Christmas Box.

I’m not going to review Haribo’s because I am absolutely  certain that everyone who is reading this has eaten Haribo’s before and if not they are literally 10 pence a packet in most retail stores.

Lets now discuss this months Tea’s, the tea’s in my box were Rosey Rhubarb Green, The Earl of Winter and Cheeky Digestive.

The first tea I tried was Rosey Rhubarb Green, it’s a blend of Green Tea, Rhubarb and rose petals, it was surprisingly quite sweet, you could definitely taste the Green Tea and the flavors of the Rhubarb danced with your taste buds, the rose petals were an excellent addition to the brew as it gave of the sweet scent of roses at Christmas time.

Rosey Rhubarb Cream was a very tasty blend of Green Tea, it’s honestly the best Green Tea I have ever had.

Next I tried Cheeky Digestive, Cheeky Digestive is a blend of Pistachio, Apple Pieces, Orange Peel, Wild Strawberry Leaves, White Cornflower, Blossoms, Raspberry Leaves, Sweet Blackberry Leaves, Pink Peppercorns and Hazelnuts.

Now the Cheeky Digestive boasts that it tastes like a biscuit but with all the ingredients you would most likely find that very doubtful, well let me be the first to tell you that it does indeed taste almost exactly like a Digestive Biscuit, I don’t know why this is perhaps many of these ingredients are in Digestive Biscuits.

Cheeky Digestive is a very yummy blend of Tea but I recommend it as an occasional treat as some of the ingredients are quite large so you may find that this bag will empty much quicker than the others in this months box.

Finally I gave the Earl of Winter a go, a blend of Earl Grey, Aniseed, Liquorice Root, Star Anise, Strawberry Leaves, Cornflower Petals, Verbena, Rooibos, Blackberry Leaves, Lemon Grass and Cloves.

The Earl of Winter is an interesting combination, the idea is that its the popular classic Earl Grey but with a festive kick, I found the Liquorice Root to be very overpowering which made it difficult to recognize the other flavors in the brew, it did remind me of Christmas which was nice it helped make this more of an experience other than just a cup of Tea, I will be enjoying a mug of Earl of Winter on Christmas Night.

Earl of Winter was a very tasty blend of Tea, I only wish that some of the other flavors were as strong as the Liqourice Root.

My first box of BRUU was a fantastic experience that I wont likely forget anytime soon, BRUU have opened my eyes to the world of real Tea, this is better than Tea Bags and I recommend BRUU to anyone who loves Tea as much as I do.

Cant wait till next month.

Merry Christmas
