https://ragglefragglereviews.com/2019/09/16/mega-man-legacy-collection-2-2017-review/

The game opens with a flashback to Dr Wily and Dr Light at Robot University and shows the player the time when they had the famous argument which caused them to become rivals. Due to Wilys Gear System causing strain on robots Lights research was chosen over Wily’s.

At this point Wily wakes up remembering the power of his Gear System he sets to work on taking over the world once again stealing Lights latest robots with the power of the gear system making Wily almost unstoppable. Thankfully Light kept a prototype of Wily’s original gear system allowing him to install it into Mega Man powering him up ready for battle.

The game follows the usual Mega Man pattern of eight challenging platforming levels each with a Robot Master and most with a mini boss. I was surprised that the game did not hold back on its difficulty. There are four different levels of difficulties to pick from but I personally would recommend either casual or normal.

For every Robot Master you successfully defeat you will gain a new weapon that can be used at any time however with limited energy, each robot master is weak to another masters weapon so you need test out different abilities to ensure that you can survive the many challenges of the game.

The Gear System is a new element of gameplay that can temporarily aid Mega Man, players are able to slow down time or increase the Mega Busters Power, I hardly ever used the power gear but the speed was extremely useful for avoiding large oncoming hazards and to make some precise shots on enemies.

Visually I think this is one of the best looking Mega Man games of the classic series, It doesn’t hold a candle to Mega Man 8 but I really enjoyed the small fun details that Capcom put in this one. I love blast mans stage as they designed the background as TV set giving it a lot of charm.

The soundtrack is ok but really isnt anything special, not that its bad or anything its just very forgetful which is shame considering that some of the previous games have given us some of the most influential video music of all time. I love Mega Man music that gets the player pumped for a battle but is still really fun to listen too and Mega Man 11 did not deliver any of this for myself.

Along side the music the game is fully voice acted and the voice work is much better here than it was in Mega Man 8.

Mega Man 11 is a great game I will admit that its not one of my favourites but is a lot of fun none the less. It has some bonus challenges but the only one worth playing in my opinion is the Dr Lights challenge which puts the player through 30 very difficult short levels. The main game is challenging enough but is made a little easy by its very cheap shop which can be visited between levels even on the stages between Wily’s fortress which is a series first, because of this you can keep stocking up on cheaper weapon and energy tanks making the final battle a breeze. A great blast from the past but one that I wish had a more interesting soundtrack and was perhaps not so generous with its item prices and bolt drops.

7.7/10

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 (2017) Review

I would recommend reading my review of  the first Mega Man Legacy Collection before reading this review

https://ragglefragglereviews.com/2018/02/24/mega-man-legacy-collection-2015-review/

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is a set of Mega Man games that was released in 2017, the set contains Mega Man 7 through 10

I really enjoyed the original Mega Man Legacy Collection so I was eager to dive into this one when I got the chance.

Mega Man 7 (1995)

81o99xyQoGL._AC_SL1500_

Wow Capcom really stepped up their box art game for this one, its really awesome and has loads of detail, the past games had some interesting box art but most of them were quite odd choices for the games they represented.

MM7-Promo-Art

Six months after finally imprisoning Dr Wily, Dr Wily’s Laboratory reactivates releasing four robot masters who have been programmed to find their master, these Robots attack Dr Light and bring chaos to the city, all of this was a ruse to cover his escape from prison leaving Mega Man to once again set out to defeat Wily and save the day.

hqdefaultThe start really puts a lot players off at first is because it begins with an introduction stage that has a lot of unskippable dialogue the second reason is that at first due to the plot of the game you can only choose to fight four robot masters which is a step down compared to the previous games which allowed you to pick from all eight.

largeApart from these two things the rest of the game is really great, it adds so much to franchise that really brought a lot to the table. The game looks fantastic thanks to its 16 bit upgrade, it has a lot of fluent animations and very innovative stage and enemy designs.

hqdefault (1)

The game is packed to the brim with secrets and hidden upgrades to add to your arsenal, stages have multiple paths that can be found in order to obtain these secrets adding a lot of replay value to the game.

MM7_RightotShop2

A shop has finally been introduced to the series making it much easier to obtain Energy Tanks. Lives and Weapon Energy, you can purchase these with currency you can find in the game.

MM7_DWno55_ShadeMan

The robot masters in this game are really cool, they all have very well themed stages and all their attacks patterns match their personalities perfectly my favourite stage and fight in the game is against Shade Man.

I really like this game but many people do not and while I understand why that is, I had a lot of fun with this one, it added a lot to the series and the secrets are really fun to find especially Proto man and if you find him enough times in the game you can fight him to obtain his shield. I will say that this game is really hard and it is not very forgiving the final boss almost made me rage quit which does not often happen for me.

Mega Man 8 (1997)

mega_man_8_gh__51996.1397742076

I think this might be the worst box art we have come across so far, its really boring and has almost no detail to it apart from Mega Man himself who to be fair looks great.

Mm8promo

Two Robots fall from space after fighting each other, at this time Mega Man and Rush are also in an intense battle against rival Bass however the fight is interrupted by Roll who brings a message from Dr Light asking Mega Man to investigate strange energy readings he picked up on an Island that is close by. On the Island Dr Wily is spotted flying away with a purple orb. Mega Man chases down Dr Wily soon to discover new robot masters and the fallen robots.

maxresdefault

There was a lot of changes to this game and for the most part they work well enough, the first is the new graphics, due to the game taking place on a disc based system it was able to push extremely smooth animations and the visuals were the best we had seen in a Mega Man game so far, they even had voices for characters during game-play which helped to add a lot of personality.

download

Another addition thanks to Disc technology was fully animated cut-scenes and even though the voice acting was abysmal the animations were amazing.

109100-mega-man-8-anniversary-edition-playstation-screenshot-stage

You can still only choose from four robot masters at first but again it makes sense due to the way the plot develops in the game, I do miss being able to choose out of all eight though. The shop also returns here but its for upgrades to Mega Man and his Mega Buster as energy, weapon and super tanks are not in the game.

CXcIDY

The game really mixes up its game play by adding new maze platforming sections and terrible on rails sections that will have you tearing your hair out. These on rails sections are the hardest part of the game and while they are extremely annoying the rest of the game is a breeze, I found no trouble in surviving and beating bosses, even the final boss was really easy. The secret upgrades were handed to you for beating mini bosses in some levels so their wasn’t even difficulty in exploration making this the easiest Mega Man game I have ever played.

Mega Man 8 is a really interesting game in the series, it changed the balance of the game play style that the series was known for which was a nice change of pace although some of the new ideas were really frustrating. I was really disappointed with the robot masters in this game because to me none of them really stood out and they were quite forgetful. The game is really easy for the most part which makes this a nice game to start with if you are new to the series and are not wanting to be too invested with the ongoing plot of the past games.

Mega Man 9 (2008)

Megaman9cover

As Mega Man 9 was never released on physical media, we will instead be looking at its virtual art work.

This is much better looking than the Mega Man 8 box art however Mega Man has got some weird design choices and while the Dr Wily in the background is really cool he is absolutely terrifying and looks nothing like he does in any of the games.

mm9

Once again not long after Wily’s last defeat Robots across the world begin to malfunction and attack the city. These robots actually belong to Dr Light and due to this he is arrested. Dr Wily asks civilians for donations to build new peace keeping robots to fix all of the damages, Mega Man knows that Wily cannot be trusted so he heads out to defeat him once again while finding evidence to help clear Dr Lights good name.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2_20170810172502

First thing to note is that this game takes a lot of inspiration from the original NES games, and the first addition brought over is that you can choose from all eight robot masters from the get go.

maxresdefault (1)

The game uses a very similar colour palette and design to the NES games and I dont mind this, its very nostalgic and does not take away from the experience.

Gtl2n

The robot masters are really fun, my favourite stage and fight is Galaxy man, this game was also the first Mega Man to have a female robot master (Splash Woman). The game even has a great soundtrack and is in my opinion the best soundtrack in any of the main series Mega Man games up to this point so for the most part this game is practically flawless.

I do have one complaint though, they removed the slide ability and charging up the Mega Buster which does not make a lot of sense as they have been a part of the series since they were first introduced but apart from this Mega Man 9 is a great game and one of my favourites.

Mega Man 10 (2010)

Updcover

Once again this game only ever released digitally so we will have to look at the digital art, and this artwork is absolutely amazing, it is my favourite out of all of the main series Mega Man box art, there so are so many details and fantastic illustrations to admire making this a very solid piece of art.

mm10

An outbreak of a rare robot disease call robenza has spread across the world and has infected thousands of robots leaving them very sick and close to a complete shutdown. A month after the outbreak Dr Wily crashes into Dr Lights lab claiming that he was attacked by Robenza affected robots who were trying to steal a Medicine machine he was building to create a cure, Mega Man agrees to defeat the robots and get the parts needed for Wily to build the machine, he heads off to find the robot masters feeling unsure as to whether he should trust Wily.

MM10 Proto Man

The game allows the player to play as either Mega Man, Proto Man and eventually Bass, I played as Mega Man but all of characters have unique dialogue and some difference in how they attack although apart from this the base game remains the same.

download (1)

Mega Man 10 follows the same inspirations as Mega Man 9 so all of the robot masters are available from the beginning and the game play remains very much the same with some differences if playing as Proto Man or Bass adding some replay value.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2_20180116184833

The stage designs are much harder and in some way more creative and fun, I really like strike mans stage and nitro mans stage, the robot master fights are also much more tricky in this game so players will have to use patience and clever thinking to avoid damage and win the battles. The levels are really short which I believe is because of the increase of difficulty.

MM10WilyCapsuleScreen

I wouldn’t normally talk about a final boss however I feel I need to at this point, this form of Dr Wily is called Wily Capsule and it has appeared in so many times that I am honestly a little sick of seeing it and wish that they would come up with some new ideas for a final form, it is slightly different in this game as there is a fake Wily as well but I would like to a see a different Wily form when I eventually get around to Mega Man 11

Mega Man 10 is a really fun Mega Man game that I really enjoyed, its not one of my favourites however I do appreciate that it added the ability to play as different characters which is something that was new to the main series.

With the games of the collection finished I want to briefly discuss the bonus features in this collection.

tcfUxY7

Each game has 10 challenges that players can attempt, the requirements for each challenge do vary, it might be a boss rush, beating a stage without taking damage or beating challenges in set time limits and more.

OQTSiF

You can play music from all four games to your hearts content in the music player mode and you can look at game art for all of the games in the museum mode.

This is a really good collection and I really enjoyed it however there are two things from the first legacy collection that never carried over to here and it really sucks, the first is the ability to play the Japanese versions of the games and secondly is you can no longer use save states, the game does add save states as checkpoints but its not the same as saving whenever you want too, this did not really affect me as I have been playing Mega Man games for a long time now but its absence was still noted.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 gets a 9.2/10

Its was fun to return to this series and I cannot wait to get around to Mega Man 11 and the other Legacy Collections that have been released

A quick update as of august 2020 I have discovered that you can play the Japanese versions of the games if you change the games text language to Japanese. It is great that the Japanese versions are here but having to change the language of the in game menu’s is a pain.

I hope you enjoyed this review of Mega Man Legacy Collection 2

Mega Man Legacy collection (2015) Review

legacy collection

After six years of doing this website I feel its about time I talked about one of Capcoms oldest but most popular characters Mega Man, Mega Man began his epic saga in 1987 with his first video game on the NES, The legacy collection includes the first six games in the Mega Man franchise along side some extra features which will be discussed.

Mega Man (1987)

22079_front

Yikes would you look at that box art, I dont know who that person is meant to be but its not Mega Man, The box art for the original Mega Man is fairly crap its Mega Man himself who looks like a grumpy middle aged man which ruins it for me, the rest of the box art is OK but that original design for the Hero of the series was not helping sell copies of the game back in the day.

RMCoverPromo.jpg

The Mega Man games all have fairly similar plots but I will do a brief summary of each one starting with the original games.

Dr Light and Dr Wily used to be business partners, They both worked together to build robots with a purpose to help people and each robot had a different ability.

One day the robots started behaving inappropriately as they began attacking the people they were built to help, Dr Light discovers that it was Dr Wily that reprogrammed the robots to do this as he wanted to use them to take over the world, a prototype robot with a strong sense of justice and the ability to learn called Mega Man takes off into the city in order to stop all of the robots and Dr Wily from achieving world domination.

Mega_Man_-_NES_-_Stage_Select

Mega Man uses a level select system which allows the player to go to any level they want from the get go, this idea gave the Mega Man series its own identity and a new challenging way to play games which became a staple in the video game industry, the level select menu is quite boring in the original game, its a plain background that doesn’t give the player much to look at.

8Iem2p

Thankfully the game play is a lot more interesting I do wish their was more to look at in the background of the levels but we must remember that this is an early NES game so we shouldn’t expect too much.

Mega Man 2 (1988)

Megaman2_box

The box art for Mega Man 2 is more appealing than that of the original but its still not great, the characters look like extras in power rangers more than they do robots, also Mega Man looks like hes just broken his ankle, that actually looks quite painful,it was a good effort Capcom but the art really needs work.

Mm2jp

After his defeat in the first game Dr Wily creates 8 more robot Masters in order to take over the world and Dr Light sends out Mega Man to stop the mad scientist once again.

240758-mega_man_2.e_01

The level select screen in Mega Man 2 is a lot more exiting than Mega Man 1, its amazing how just a little bit more detail can make all of the difference.

mega-man-2

Visually the games colours are more sharp and the backgrounds are a lot more interesting, they are well animated and very cool however these fun backgrounds only tend to turn up now and again before returning to a more bland background design, other changes to Mega Man 2 is the ability to shoot in all directions and the addition of Energy Tanks, Energy Tanks can be found in difficult spots of various stages, these useful canisters can be used by Mega Man at anytime to completely refill his health, the enemy designs are again very creative in this game but they are too generous with their energy and weapon drops which makes the game quite a bit easier than the original.

Mega_Man_2_battle_Air_Man

The Robot Masters in the game are a lot of fun and similar to the original game most have weaknesses which can be taken avantage of with Mega Mans ever expanding arsenal however many of them can be easily defeated with either the Mega Buster or Metal Blade making them much easier as well.

The game has a kickass soundtrack which I wont go into too much detail now but I will say that the opening theme is perfect and really helps to get you hyped for the game that follows.

Mega Man 3 (1992)

Ok so the release date here is a little controversial because while the game was released in 1990 in Japan and in the USA in Europe it wasn’t released until 1992 so whether the date I have put is relevant to you depends on where you are from.

Megaman3_box

Now that box art is much better, sure Mega Man himself seems a bit derpy but its hard not admire the rest of the detail, for one Mega Man is actually shooting with his Mega Buster and not a pistol, Wily’s fortress in the background is pretty cool and Mega Man blasting the gears out of a robot just gets me super hyped for the adventure that awaits.

Mm3jp.png

After being defeated twice by Mega Man Dr Wily helps Dr Light build a piece keeping robot named Gamma, 8 more robot masters are built in order to mine different planets for crystals which will power Gamma but these crystals mysteriously go missing and the robot masters start acting violently, Mega Man is sent to destroy the robot masters and return the crystals however this time he is joined by a robotic dog companion called Rush, both Mega Man and rush shoot off into the galaxy in order to save the day once again.

mm3

Mega Man 3’s gameplay is not much different from the other 2 games but some differences worth mentioning are as follows, this game has longer levels and most have 2 checkpoints instead of one, Mega Man 3 is much more difficult than both of its predecessors, you fight not only the 8 new robot masters but four additional stages with each needing Mega Man to defeat two robot masters from the last game, Rush is a useful companion and in a similar manner to Mega Man 2’s Dr Light upgrades Rush can help Mega Man jump higher, fly freely and can also be used as a submarine which can shoot and drive freely underwater, all of these become extremely helpful but they do have a limited power source and finally a new foe called Proto man makes an appearance in the game and Mega Man will need to defeat him various times.

Apart from those this game follows the regular Mega Man formula but one thing I will point out is that this game lags a lot so be prepared for that.

The sound track isn’t too great here not many memorable tracks at all and the lack of an intro cut scene kinda sucked.

Mega Man 4 (1992)

Megaman4_box

Mega Man looks a bit more normal on this cover but the art is no where near as cool as Mega Man 3’s.

flubrx2rq7zrykfxx1cl

After Dr Wily’s defeat in Mega Man 3 world peace came to the world for an entire year before Mega Man was threatened by a new foe Dr Cossack, Dr Cossack has created eight robot masters who are each programmed to kill Mega Man, Mega Man sets off to defeat the robot masters and his new enemy hoping to bring peace back to the world.

mm4-2

Mega Man 4 runs a lot smoother compared to the last game which was a bit of a relief as it made the experience less aggravating, in my opinion this is the game which pushed the NES era of Mega games to some of the best visuals the system could put out, the game is beautifully animated, you should watch the final cut-scene over and over again just appreciate how amazing it looks, If the graphics were enhanced a little I honestly believe that it could be mistaken for a Super Nintendo game, along side the awesome visual upgrade we are treated to a few additions and changes, Mega Man now has a new Mega Buster which can deliver charge shots for extra damage and instead of fighting robot masters from the last game we are instead given two final castles to take on although the levels here are a lot shorter than usual so its not too overwhelming.

Mega Man 5 (1992)

39989-mega-man-5-nes-front-cover

I really like this box art, Mega Man looks cool, the enemy designs are pretty awesome and their is plenty of detail in the background, its really nice and its my favourite so far.

RM5Promo

Two months after the events of Mega Man 4, Proto Man has sent an army of robot masters to take over the world, Mega Man doesn’t understand why the robot who once helped him is doing such an evil thing but with little choice Mega Man runs into the city with his new robot bird called Beat who was gifted to him by Dr Cossack after he rescued him during his last adventure, don’t feel too bad about the companion as hes extremely useful, although it should be noted that hes only available near the end of the game so make of that what you will but either way you still get Rush which is great.

j4fBL1

To be honest not much has changed here, as stated before you get a new companion but apart from this only very few changes were made compared to Mega Man 4, energy tanks and health drops I found found were slightly more generous making this adventure a little less stressful and I found the mega buster to be more powerful here but I cant be too sure.

With Mega Man 5 not really giving us much new material we just have one more game to tackle in this collection.

Mega Man 6 (1993)

1220d10127e41fb5f6d7f5fc5c44f453

This box art is really weird, why the hell does it seem as though Mega Man has travelled back to the middle ages, that castle is really old looking and it doesn’t suit the futuristic theme of the series but I will say that I do like that they are showing off one of the Rush adaptor suits on the cover with the Jet Pack Mega Man.

RM6CoverPromo

After Dr Wily’s 5th defeat a global robot alliance was created to help keep peace in the universe, a robot tournament was made to help find the strongest peace keeping robot in the world, Mega Man is sent to supervise the tournament to make sure that there is no funny business but before the tournament begins the host Mr X announces that he has re-programmed all the contestants to help him take over the world and he even announces that he was manipulating Dr Wily the entire time, with the world in danger Mega Man and Rush set out to defeat their new foe and bring back world peace.

Mega_man_6_gameplay

As previously mentioned in this game Rush does help Mega Man but unlike before when Rush would allow Mega Man to use him to get past difficult obstacles this time around they both combine with each other its pretty weird but I like it, apart from that nothing much is new its just a standard Mega Man game, great sound track, nice tight controls and epic action packed platforming game play, you cant go wrong, its more unique than the previous games with its rush adaptors but other than that its the same Mega Man we all love and you cant complain about that.

rc6AgX

With the games out of the way I want to quickly cover the extra features of this collection, first of all we have the challenge mode, its essentially small scenes from the games where you have to complete difficult tasks, they could be kill a boss within a certain time frame or beat a bunch of bosses without dying, finish a segment without taking damage and so much more, getting gold on all of these challenges is difficult but can be done with a lot of patience and a steady mind.

wAY5C9

Finally there are two pretty cool features available from the get go one is quick access to each games sound track which are all awesome by the way, and the other is the ability to change between the English and Japanese versions of each game.

I know it may seem odd that I chose to cover these in a collection instead one at a time but to be honest as much as I love Mega Man they are all fairly similar, this collection is a fantastic purchase for anyone who loves the series and even those who may want to check it out, fear not it does have a save state option available and the Nintendo Switch version which has not yet been released is going to include a rewind feature which will allow you to re try tricky sections in real time without having to reload a stage or re-do an entire level, the only small issue I have is the few lag spikes in some of the games I don’t expect this in a collection for such modern day machines so this was a little disappointing, the Mega Man games are a huge staple in the video game industry they helped to put Capcom on the map and have since become a massive part of video game history, each game is fun in its own way and each game has a special place in my heart, now go out there and blow up some robots 9.5/10

I hope you enjoyed my review of the Mega Man Legacy Collection

Saturday Anime Review: Mega Man Starforce

Yay Mega Man one of my favourite video game series of all time, it’s made by capcom and like most capcom videogames it kicks ass. We all know about the classic Mega Man series for the nes, The Mega Man X series for the snes, the Mega Legends series and so on but what about the Mega Man starforce video game series for the Nintendo DS did you even know this existed I sure didn’t until I watched the Anime which is based on the games and this a review of that anime and that anime is Mega Man Starforce. I have never played the games this is a review of the Anime in general.

Image Ok let’s first of all discuss a problem and that of course is the fact that in the UK and USA only season 1 of the show is available as the later seasons were only aired in Japan why you may ask? I have no idea it’s probably because some new stupid show came out and they needed a time space for it to be aired so they just said bye bye to Mega Man Starforce and Hello to Super Kitty Rainbow Fight or something.

With that off my chest let’s talk about the show in general

Meet Geo Stelar ImageHe is the main character of the show and he wants to become an astronaut so he can go into space and look for his father who went missing, Everyone thinks that he is dead but Geo is certain that his dad is still out there. Ever since his dad went missing geo hasn’t gone to school and is instead studying at home (Ok let’s skip ahead a few chapters here as I don’t want to ruin much of the story for anyone who wants to check out the show). One night Geo is sat outside using a special pair of glasses his father once wore called the visualizer which allows EM energy to be seen by the naked eye and while Geo uses the visualizer he sees what looks like to lights fighting but one of these lights starts coming towards Geo and Geo gets hit by this light.

Now Meet Omega-XisImage

That light which hit Geo happened to be an Alien called Omega-Xis who has the power to channel EM energy. Geo meets Omega-Xis in his room, Omega-Xis explains who he is and his purpose on earth he also explains to Geo that he needs his help to defeat any of the bad aliens which will use the EM energy to merge with people who they can then control to their own advantages. Just like the other aliens Omega-Xis can merge with people using EM energy so Omega-Xis asks for Geo’s permission for them to merge energy cells so they can become one to defend earth (and for other reasons which I won’t say because like I said before I don’t want to ruin too much of the story). Geo agrees to let Omega-Xis  merge with him because Omega-Xis knows stuff about Geo’s Father, when geo and Omega-Xis merge  as one they become Mega Man and fight for earth’s safety begins.

If you’re a Mega Man fan go and watch this show because even though we can only watch the first season it’s a really awesome show, it has great story line, really shows the capabilities of an Anime based on a video game series and in general like I said before it kicks ass so go buy it you can get on Amazon pretty cheap and I will even leave you link providing you live in the UK as I am British.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mega-Man-Starforce-DVD/dp/B001B182S4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1353192631&sr=8-2

I hope you enjoyed this review Mega Man Starforce the Anime this review is of my own opinion
