Remember the Night (1940) Review

Its Christmas time and Lee Leander (Barbara Stanwyck) a Local Crook has just been caught shoplifting, she is being prosecuted by a Lawyer called John Sargent (Fred MacMurray),the trial is postponed as it is difficult to get a conviction during the Christmas season.

John feels bad for Lee having to spend Christmas behind bars so he pays her bail and ends up taking her to his mothers for Christmas instead.

John and Lee spend a lot of time together during Christmas, they spend a lot of it with John’s loving family which was a real treat for Lee as her family are complete arse holes, the memories and time spent together over Christmas combined with the atmosphere of a loving family causes John and Lee to fall in love.

This may seem really sweet but there is a massive problem, John is meant to be putting Lee in jail so how are they going to fix this issue in the court room?

The conclusion may surprise you

Remember the Night is a fantastic Christmas movie, its an emotional experience that will leave you wanting more when it finishes, the cast are great I particularly enjoyed the character of Lee Leander she is a really lovely girl but you can definitely sense how sly she is whenever she’s on screen, I was honestly really surprised by how good this film was, its charming, its emotional and its definitely gonna tug at your heart strings.

you do not want to skip this one this year.

Attack on Titan E19 Bite The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Part 3

Spoilers !!!

We begin the episode where we left off last time, Captain Levi’s group are still running through the forest while getting chased by the female titan, we learn that Captain Levi’s purpose in setting off the smoke signal was simply an act of impulse to confuse or stun the titan, sadly this did not work.

As a last resort Erin attempts to become a titan but is quickly stopped by his comrades who are  telling him that he should trust them, Erin is now stuck between following his conscience and listening to those who are laying down their lives for him.

Cover your ears

We are now taken into a flash back of Erin’s training for the current mission, he is stood in a well and is told that when Hanji Zoe sets off her smoke signal he should bite his finger but as he tries to do this he does not transform, he bites his hands many times during his attempt at transformation but he still has no luck and this time his wounds wont even heal.

Later on during dinner Erin drops his spoon and as he picks it up his right arm transforms into the arm of a titan, his comrades get out their weapons and threaten to kill him if he doesn’t convince them that he is safe.

Erins Titan Arm

Erin manages to free his arm from the titan flesh, later on that night Hanji Zoe shares a new discovery about Erin’s abilities with the survey corps, it turns out that Erin can only transform when he is trying to achieve some kind of a goal, after learning this Erin’s comrades feel really guilty about shouting at him all of them bite their hands as a way of apologising to Erin, this moment teaches all of Captain Levi’s group about the importance of trust.

Back in the present Erin is still contemplating his big decision but he eventually decides to take the word of his comrades and he keeps moving forward, the female titan is getting very close to Erin at this point but luckily she is attacked with hundreds of harpoons and it turns out that the plan was to capture her alive all along in order to find out who is controlling the titan body

Harpooned Titan

This episode was really cool, it did not have too much action but the emotions and the atmosphere was just fantastic, this is the first episode that really expanded on Levi’s character, the way he reacts to the survey corps when they are trying to kill Erin shows a more sympathetic and caring side to the all out bad-ass we have been shown in previous episodes. I thought that the trust scene was brilliant having Erin’s comrades bite their hands to go through the pain that he goes through every time he wants  to transform was really sweet and in a way shows that even though Erin carries titan DNA they are all very similar and will always stick together.

Absolutely Awesome Cant wait until episode 20

Attack on Titan E16 What Needs to be Done Now Eve of the Counterattack, Part 3

Spoilers !!!

It’s now time for all of the soldiers to make the big decision of which force they will join the survey corps, the garrison or the military police .

Commander Erwin gives a very intense speech about the dangers of joining the survey corps which scares away the majority of the soldiers, he tells the soldiers that who ever wants to join should stay and the rest should leave to join another less dangerous attack force, all of the soldiers make their choice leaving just a handful of soldiers to join the survey corps.

The remaining soldiers

All those who joined the survey corps starts training the next day , the first tasks for the survey corps is too initiate the new recruits as well as test Erin’s titan ability, Erin is given permission to see Mikasa and Armin before they start the training Mikasa gets very emotional and is relieved to finally see Erin again after such a long separation , she is also still very angry at Captain Levi and swears she will get revenge for his violence towards Erin in the court room.

This is also the first time that Erin hears about Marco’s passing which is something that is still haunting Jean.

Marcos Dead

Everyone is pleased to be helping protect Erin on the path to Zhiganshina but they do have their doubts whether they have made the right choice due to Erin not yet having complete control over his titan abilities and because he tried to kill Mikasa while in titan form during the previous battle.

The best part about the scene is that nothing is over the top or over dramatic all of the characters show their emotions in a calm but effective manner and that something that I believe most of the time this show does really well compared to many other anime’s.

This episode was great, all of the soldiers had to make a big decision and you can genuinely sympathise with their final decisions, every emotional scene is played off perfectly these characters are feeling these intense emotions and in some ways I was feeling these emotions with them.

This episode did not have the awesome attack on titan action that I love but it was a very emotional episode which in my opinion was directed perfectly
