The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages (2001) Review

ages-seasons-box-art

The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons and Ages are the seventh and eight games in the franchise, they were developed by Capcom for the Nintendo Gameboy Colour. These games are very unique entries to the series because they are both heavily connected and should be played one after the other in order of the players choice.

download

In order to connect the games plots after finishing one game you will be given a code to enter into the other game to get the conclusive experience.

I have decided not to discuss many details of the linked versions of each game because while they have some plot differences and connections, It would be quite major spoilers and for the the most part the base game and dungeons are practically the same with an extended final boss.

If you would like to see all of the details of the linked games use the link below

In Oracle of Ages the Triforce sends Link to the land of Labrynna, here he meets Impa who asks him to move a boulder so that she can listen to the Nayru the Oracle of Ages sing, unaware of the mistake he has made Link helps Impa to find that she had been possessed by an Evil spirit called Veran, Once close enough Veran leaves Impa and possesses Nayru instead.

hqdefault

With Veran now possessing Nayru, a plan to affect time and bring sorrow to the world is in motion, Link visits the Maku Tree who explains that by collecting the eight essences of time Link will be given enough power to defeat Veran pushing Link to travel through time to discover them and save the Oracle of Ages.

hqdefault (1)

You can find the essences of time by completing dungeons that are hidden across the map, these dungeons are very challenging and are packed with tricky puzzles, personally I would argue that these puzzles may be some of the most challenging in the franchise.

693cffacb0a81c62827712296fbd8900

New items in this game are seeds, there are many different seeds in the game you find, each of these allow Link to perform various abilities including lighting fires, attracting enemies towards him, awakening owl statues, running at fast speeds and teleporting across the map to different locations.

The only other new item that is important to the game experience is the Harp of Ages, you able to learn multiple songs in the game which allow Link to alter-time and travel freely between the past and present.

hqdefault (3)

During your adventure Link will come across three animals that need his help, A flying bear, A boxing kangaroo and Dodongo that can swim and climb waterfalls. After experimenting with these animals and testing their abilities you will later on have the opportunity to keep one of them as your main companion, this is done by finding or winning one of three flutes in the game. This is unique to both games and your animal companion will be transferred between the two games.

zelda-oracle-of-seasons-0009

There are many hidden rings in both of the games, by paying for them to be appraised you will unlock the rings ability, these can either upgrade of downgrade various aspects to Links character including but not limited too strength, defence, speed etc. These rings can be transferred between both of the games.

Oracle of Ages has one of my favourite soundtracks in the Legend of Zelda video game series, the music in this game is a lot of fun and really quite creative, it uses a lot of original tracks that suit the game perfectly but it also uses a lot of bit tunes of tracks from Ocarina of time which is one of favourite games ever.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages can easily be considered an almost perfect game, it has a great plot and a really excellent soundtrack but I feel its held back by how its never very clear where you need to be going and a lot of this is because of the in-game map, its not very clear where things are and it can be a pain teleporting across the map only to find its the wrong area I had a very similar issue with the Links Awakening DX  but apart from that I really like this game and I think its only fair that I give it a good rating of 9.8/10

fe7d20b8e61b5551f8060d60a9acee0c

In Oracle of Seasons Link finds himself exploring the Land of Holodrum where he meets Din the Oracle of Seasons and Dances with her, during this time the evil Onox kidnaps the Oracle and the seasons of the Land become completely out of control leaving Link to discover the 8 essences of nature to restore balance to the world.

Oracle-of-seasons-comparison

Right off the bat the over-world map is a lot more interesting here than it was in ages, not only would I argue the encounters are better including the trade sequence but a new puzzle element has been added outside of dungeons in the form of seasons. In the game Link is able to find wooden stumps that he can stand on and use the rod of seasons to change the seasons in game which heavily affects the over-world map in different ways, I found this much more interesting than the time travel in Oracle of Ages.

maxresdefaultunnamed

The dungeons in this game are more focused on combat so they are much tougher with enemy placements and have much more difficult boss fights. I prefer more puzzle based dungeons myself but they were a lot of fun here as well.

download (1)

The Animal Companions are also in Oracle of seasons and have the same uses as before, the game also uses rings that you can collect to enhance or downgrade Link throughout the game.

The game has a stellar soundtrack which is highly enjoyable to listen too and just like Ages it also uses bit tunes of tracks used in other Zelda games.

Oracle of Seasons is just as good as the Oracle of Ages although they are quite different, this one if more combat based and it was a lot of fun. It is a very difficult Zelda game and is a little unforgiving to its players with how difficult it can be at times but with good practise it can easily be beaten. If i’m being completely honest I seriously think I prefer this game even though it has less puzzles, it handled the characters a lot better than Ages and the majority of them had some importance to the game which made the world a lot more memorable and interesting. It is still very cryptic and the map sucks but that is to be expected considering that Ages had the same issues, overall It is only fair to give this the same score a tidy 9.8/10

I held off from playing these games for such a long time because of how they are connected, I was worried I would be bored playing two Zelda games in a row but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this wasn’t the case and they are very well designed and are great fun. It doesn’t matter which order you play the games in but I do recommend that you use the secret code in the second game you play so that you get the true ending. I wonder if they will ever try something so ambitious with this series again, I really hope so but only time will tell.

Book Review: The Hunger Games – Catching Fire

Only two years late on this one, here is my review of the first book

https://ragglefragglereviews.com/2018/01/23/book-review-the-hunger-games-by-suzanne-collins/

0439023491

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy, it was written by author Suzanne Collins and was released in 2009.

After successfully winning the 74th Hunger Games Peeta and Katniss return home to District 12 where every seems back to normal until she recieves a surprise visit from President Snow who was unimpressed with Katniss actions against the capitol and now wants her to convince the districts that it was out of love for Peeta.

Without spoiling too much of the plot I will say that I vastly enjoyed this book more than the first, there is a lot of intense and emotional moments in this story and I would argue that this is the book that really shows how messed up the Hunger Games truly is and how sinister and psychotic behaviour is the source of its creation.

There are a lot of deaths in this book that definitely did not need to happen but were necessary to show the immense power the capital has over the districts of Panem. In the first book it didn’t really show an emotional and human side to the other competitors but in this story you really feel for everyone that is involved and are left not only rooting for Katniss and Peeta. There is also a look into past hunger games which helps show us how the characters such as Hamish survived in previous games.

Overall this is an emotional book that is at times scary and even gruesome but you really feel sorry for the characters almost as if you are watching the games yourself, I do wish that I never waited so long to read this one but the third and final book I am going to finish at some point this year so look forward to that.

I hope you enjoyed this review of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Dante’s Inferno (2010) Review

220px-Dante's_Inferno

Dante’s Inferno is an action game developed by Visceral Games and Published by EA, it is very loosely based on the Inferno section of the Divine Comedy written by Dante.

After being unfaithful triggers a chain of events leading to the death of his beloved Beatrice, Dante seeks out Lucifer to free her soul, once he has defeated death and taken his sythe Dante dives into the top layer of Hell his first challenge before adventuring deeper and deeper inching closer to his goal.

dantesinferno_vdp-147gm-f4caa79e-3e94-44a0-a8ed-6e496f42b6a9-dantes-inferno

The game play is fairly simple and is not complicated, you will be slaughtering armies of demons and the un-dead tormented souls that wander the shores of hell but you will also be using various magical abilities that can be unlocked in the story or via the in-game skill tree. The most useful means of attack in the game is the holy cross that you use to kill at a distance, this is up-gradable and can become the most useful means of attack.

maxresdefault

I love the boss designs in this game, they are mostly based on guardians of the circles of Hell as well as Dante’s deceased family members, all of them are very challenging and are visually quite horrifying which suits the fantastically dark visual style of the games world.

hqdefault

There are 27 condemned souls in the game that you will have the chance to judge if you want to free them of their chains in Hell, you can choose either for these but depending on your choice will either raise you holy level or your unholy level, three souls in the game can unlock you achievements if you absolve them of their sins.

Dante’s Inferno is fully orchestrated and uses a choir to give the music very church like vibes which of course sounds fantastic and suits the general atmosphere of this game really well and even makes it creepier and more epic than it already is, I have always preferred retro video game sound tracks but this definitely of my favourites from its generation.

Dante’s Inferno is a really great game and is a testament that you can really make a video game out of anything if you put a lot of love into it. It is easily one of my favourite games of the 360 and PS3 generation. The reason I like it so much is because of it’s simplicity the developers knew what they wanted to do with the game and they stuck with it, the only disadvantage to this is that the game is very short with a length of less than 10 hours but the story telling, general vibe and consistently fun challenging game play makes up for this. To top it all off the game looks and sounds gorgeous with again simplicity in both its visuals and its music making them atmospheric but not over complicating things and with that I can only give Dante’s Inferno what it truly deserves and that is a 10/10

Barti Spiced Review

IMG_20200428_223427_1

Welcome to my third rum review on this website, tonight I have decided to finally talk about Barti Spiced.  Three things to note about this bottle 1 it used to be called Barti Ddu which is Welsh for Black Bart, 2 it is made locally in the county of Pembrokeshire in West Wales and 3 the bottle is nearly empty because I like this rum so much that I keep drinking it and that is already a good start.

Lets begin with the label the front has an illustration of a ship with a traditional skull and cross bones on the flag, now this was not Black Barts flag and I think it would have been more interesting to use his original design considering that due to how long ago he passed away it will be in the public domain. The paper quality is excellent here and has a very soft touch it almost feels a little fragile and crusted in a similar manner to aged paper, this is a nice touch and is very much appreciated.

IMG_20200428_223619_6The back of the bottle gives some safety information and also displays the 35 percent alcohol volume, the best part of this label is the poem on the back “Here’s to you John Roberts, Cymro born but bred at sea, who caught in gold-lust winds chased old world tales and fantasies. Sweet music swirled around him as he swayed under the sun, bathed in silk and Spanish gems, five hundred ships he won. A merrier life and a short one hid the hiraeth at his core as the unforgiving waves took his poor soul to heavenly shores. Some say pirates were too savage but these were savage times you see…So here’s to you John Roberts forever Known as Barti Ddu.

In 2018 a competition winner for Barti turned these words with a few changes into a really nice song that is now used in its advertising, here is a link.

The wording on the back of the bottle I believe is in reference to Black Barts death and the treasures he was wearing at the time of his death.

IMG_20200428_233304_7

With a now empty bottle and some ice in my glass its time for the taste, it needs to be stated that one of the main ingredients of this drink is locally grown seaweed and you can smell it along with the spices when you open the bottle, they blend very well and the smell is divine. This is nice mixed with cola but I actually prefer it on its own, it has a slightly sweet taste but the flavours of the spices and seaweed are a match made in heaven, the flavours dance on your tongue and are absolutely delicious, there is a little kick to it when it hits the throat before finally giving you warmth. This is the best alcohol I have ever had this and it is well worth the 30 pounds cost, it makes me very proud to live in Pembrokeshire and I highly recommend that you buy a bottle if you visit or you can purchase it on Amazon.co.uk.

I hope you enjoyed this review, its not often I buy different rums so it was nice to talk about this one.

Here’s to you John Roberts for ever known as Barti Ddu.

Sonic Adventure (1998) Review

Sonic Adventure is a 3D action platformer set in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. It stands in history as the first proper 3D sonic game and one of the first games on the Sega Dreamcast.

The game was also re-released onto the Nintendo GameCube as a director’s cut before being released digitally on most major platforms.

9-Chaos-Attacks

The plot revolves around an ancient being named Chaos, a thousand years ago Chaos was the protector of the Chao and the master emerald but one day a tribe of echidnas tried to steal the emerald and in retaliation Chaos used the emeralds power to turn into perfect Chaos killing them all instantly, now in a vow to defeat sonic , Dr Robotnik has revived chaos from his rest and is using the power of the chaos emeralds to bring him back to full power.

The game has six playable characters and each of them has a different game play style and involvement with the main plot, eventually all of these stories combine to create the story of the game.

Sonic’s game play is the fast paced action platforming that is to be expected from the series, Sonic’s play-through is the longest in the game with 10 stages.

Tails gameplay is built around flight and using that ability to beat sonic in races, it’s fun to find short cuts in these levels and Tails is actually my favourite campaign.

As Knuckles players must climb walls and dig underground to find pieces of the master emerald, these sections are fairly easy but can be challenging at times.

As Amy players will wield the piku piku hammer which they can use to smack enemies, in Amy’s stages she must finish the level while also avoiding capture by one of Eggman’s robots.

Big the Cats game play is really quite awful, it’s fishing which already should not be in a sonic game but the terrible camera while the rod is the water and the janky controls makes this campaign almost unbearable

The final campaign before the true final boss is E-102 Gamma one of Eggman’s robots that’s ends up going rouge and helping the main heroes by destroying his robot bretherin, the campaign is really fun and using the gun is a nice change of pace from the rest of game.

Aside from the main story players could also visit a special garden where they could raise baby Chao’s and enter them into competitions, I never enjoyed this section but many people have fond memories of it and because it is only a bonus it can be skipped.

The presentation of the game was fine it had really great graphics for the time but you could tell the developers had not quite nailed hiring the correct voice actors or creating great dialogue as a lot of it is very cringy although I would argue that this does add to the entertainment value of the game, it’s great for a laugh with some friends.

Easily one of the best Sonic soundtracks to this day, with Sonic’s fresh new look and 3D game play it needed a rocking sound track to boost the atmosphere of the game and it does this superbly with a mixture of punk rock, techno and orchestral tracks to help make the game play and the player feel awesome, the music of the franchise would take inspiration from this game for future entries but not many can match the impact this soundtrack had.

Sonic Adventure is at best a Mediocre title, the game is very buggy and glitches out a lot, another issue I have with the game is its speed, characters are either too slow or too fast there is no in-between and a lot of my deaths in the game were caused by this, the Big the Cat campaign doesn’t help but what I will say is that the game is still fun and you can get a laugh out of cut scenes and dialogue not to mention how fantastic the soundtrack is but overall Sonic Adventure is a game that I would only recommend if you are a hard core fan of the series. 4.0/10

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (2001) Review

220px-Jak_and_Daxter_-_The_Precursor_Legacy_Coverart

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is an open world plat-former, it was developed by Naughty Dog and was published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2.

hqdefault

Jak an adventurous young boy and his best friend Daxter are spying on a private operation on the misty island, they discover that two dark figures are commanding lurkers to harvest Dark Eco and Precursor Artefacts, before the boys can leave the island to inform the sage Samos of their discovery they are both spotted by a lurker guard which Jak manages to kill with a bomb.

JswZtB

Unfortunately the explosion caused Daxter to fall into a large body of Dark Eco which turned him into ottsel (half weasel and half otter) after returning to the sage the boys are told that only the dark sage Gol Acheron can turn Daxter back into a human leaving the boys no choice but to journey into the dangerous world to find him.

jak8

The main game play is a collectathon so there is a lot of things to find, the main collectable are power cells there are 101 in game and you can get some by completing tasks and purchasing them with precursor orbs the most satisfying collectable in the game. Precursor Orbs are egg shaped and are spread throughout levels, each stage has between 50 and 200 of these and finding them all can be very challenging  and at times infuriating due to how spread out they can be, sometimes they are hidden in really unnecessary places.

Locked_box

The final collectable in the game are scout flies, these are small flies that are trapped in red boxes hidden within levels, there are seven in each stage and collecting a stages flies will reward the player with another power cell.

jak-daxter-the-precursor-legacy-screen-08-ps4-us-22aug17

Throughout your adventure you will encounter many different enemies that you will have to defeat, luckily Jak has many moves that he can use in the game, this includes punching, spin kicking and a slam move.

maxresdefault

There are three types of energy you can collect in the game, the blue energy allows you to move very quickly and can also activate certain items, the yellow energy allows the player to shoot a projectile at enemies and the red energy gives the player higher strength all of these are only temporary so must be used quickly.

3

There are some vehicle sections in the game which are all very fun but I would argue that when you are collecting things during these sections its not very well designed due to the vehicles being a little too fast and the way the items are spread out makes it hard to collect them with out dying due to some of these areas being timed such as the lava sections.

large

There are some mini games hidden within the main game and these are all ok and have a fair and balanced difficulty but they are my least favourite part of the game as I do feel they don’t really fit here.

The soundtrack definitely has inspiration from Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot games and is in a very similar style however its not as good here and while the music is a lot of fun to listen too none it is very memorable, I cant recall any of the music from the game but it is still quite good.

Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy was the beginning of Naughty Dogs new journey after the masterful Crash Bandicoot games on the PS1, this game is a fantastic start on what would become an extremely beloved franchise. I think this game is great and it has a lot of memorable characters with great personalities and while this game is a little flawed with the way items can be spread out and a fairly forgetful soundtrack it makes up for it with outstanding visuals, smooth game play and very few load screens, the game is very satisfying to play and never gets boring 8.9/10

Sonic 3 and Knuckles (1994) Review

S3&k

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is actually a combination of two halves of one game that were sold separately.

Let me try and explain

in February 1994 Sonic the Hedgehog  3 was released for Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in USA) while the game sold well and was genuinely a really fun game  it only had six zones and the ending of the game felt lacking and a little forced, the reason for this is that the game was intended to be longer and due to time restraints it was rushed to consumers, around six months after this a new Sonic game was released called Sonic and Knuckles.

hqdefault

Sonic and Knuckles was first advertised as a brand new Sonic game and it definitely felt like one, it lacked in Tails but players could now control Knuckles who was an antagonist in Sonic 3, of course this felt odd and the plot of the game stated that this was a direct follow up to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and was later confirmed to be the second half that was originally missing.

pRngCTitle_Screen_Sonic_3_and_Knuckles

Another odd thing about Sonic and Knuckles was the cartridge, it had two connecting ports one that went into the Mega Drive and another that would connect to the Sonic 3 game cartridge and if they put both these into the system at the same time the full finished version of the game would play.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the definitive version of Sonic 3 and is the intended fully finished game which combines both halves, this also allowed players to use Knuckles in the original Sonic 3 Levels, Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the superior version of the game and is the version that is often included in sonic video game collections.

h0SKOY

After the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Dr Robotnik’s death egg crash landed on Angel Island where he meets Knuckles the Echidna, Knuckles is the Guardian of the Master Emerald, this emerald allows the island to levitate so it is very important, Robotonik tricks Knuckles into believing that Sonic and Tails are trying to steal the Master Emerald causing him to try and defeat Sonic while Robotnik repairs the Death Egg.

maxresdefaultsourcess_7daa052a63cb2e097f18a22270ac0948e84a6883.1920x1080

The game-play is the regular Sonic style where players will need to get through each act as quickly and strategically as possible while making sure to try and avoid damage from enemies, you can play with either Sonic or Tails and similar to the second game Sonic is faster but Tails is able to hover momentarily.

b

With the game originally split into two parts, in the second part players could control Knuckles who had the ability to climb walls and discover secret areas of course in Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Knuckles was available in both parts.

maxresdefault (1)

There are four shields in the game, they are each based on elements and are useful in different situations, the insta-shield will defend against enemy attacks, the fire shield against heat, the water shield allows the characters to breath under water and the lightning shield would attract rings and deflect enemy projectiles.

S3k_specialstage

The special stages are back and to be honest I really dislike these stages, the idea is that you need to move over a 2.5 D space and collect all of the blue balls but the controls on the Mega Drive are a little clunky here and it makes it quite difficult to get through.

29271192ab2504d7-600x338

Unlike previous games when you get the seven chaos emeralds here you actually unlock super transformations for all three characters, Super Sonic is invincible, Knuckles can move and climb faster but the best one is Tails who can call upon and army of Flicky birds to very quickly hurt enemies, this is really useful for winning boss fights.

Sonic 3 has the best soundtrack out of the original trilogy, while I do prefer the second games soundtrack for nostalgic reasons this one is more memorable for its upbeat music and the use of different sounds to help match with the necessary environments.

Sonic 3 and knuckles is probably the best Sonic game ever made, I wish that it wasn’t so complicated of a release and if I was too just review Sonic 3 alone I would argue that it was one of my least favourites but when in its final state it was one of the most innovative and creative video games of its time. It added a save system which made the game much easier to pick up and play from where you left off, with three playable characters and each with a super transformation it added many reason to play over and over again, the only downside for me was the special stages which I still think are not  very well designed but they are playable and with practice can be completed, overall a fairly flawless game which easily earns a 9.8/10 even with its ridiculous release history.

I hope you enjoyed this review of Sonic 3 and Knuckles for the Mega Drive/ Genesis

Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal (2007) Review

51pbB9Yj0EL._AC_

Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal is a platforming shooter game starring various Looney Tunes characters, it was developed by Redtribe and was published by Warner Bros. Games it was released for the PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii.

maxresdefault

The Evil Dr Frankenbean has sent a robot army to multiple time periods in order to wipe out the Looney Tunes ancestry, now everyone’s favourite Looney Tunes characters need to travel through time to save their ancestors and to keep their own existence.

_-Looney-Tunes-Acme-Arsenal-Wii-_looneytune259084

The base game is a third person shooter, there is a quite a lot of platforming needed to get through the levels but you will find that most of time you will blasting the robotic enemies in the game with various guns ranging from regular firearms to more Looney Tunes and cartoon inspired weaponry.

xtwy7l

The other type of level in the main campaign are vehicle sections where you are timed to complete the stage while blasting through enemies as well as collecting clocks to keep increasing your time limit.

hqdefault

The games does have a multiplayer battle mode and 2 players can work together simultaneously in the main campaign, it should also be noted that during the main campaign you can use the money you collect to pay for various items these can include new skins for the multiplayer.

The soundtrack is quite uninspired, the music is not terrible but after a few minutes of the same loud and annoying tune repeating itself on a loop, I found myself muting the Television after sampling each of the tracks.

Looney Tunes: ACME Arsenal is one of the worst video games I have ever played, this is one of the most uninspired pieces of crap to come out out Warner Bros, in my opinion the game has no redeeming values at all, the graphics are mediocre at best and the soundtrack is not much better, the game play is really boring and nothing in the game is funny or carries any of the Charm of the Looney Tunes characters even the cut-scenes are boring and have had little effort put into them, I am ashamed to own this game and I will probably never play it again , it may not be the worst game I have ever played but it is definitely the worst piece of Looney Tunes Media I have witnessed so far. 2/10

I hope you enjoyed this review of Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal

The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie (1981) Review

51HZP06X2RL._AC_SY445_

Directed by Friz Freleng the Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie is a compilation film of Looney Tunes shorts, it is the third Looney Tunes Theatrical film but is different when compared to the two films that came before it.

The film opens with a very funny short film from 1958 titled Knighty Knight Bugs, this was a great way to introduce us to the film and is in my opinion one of its biggest highlights.

The rest of the movie is split into 3 acts each with classics shorts that have been edited to work as one long cartoon when put together, because of this instead of talking about my favourite shorts from the film I’m going to discuss each segment.

ACT 1 Satan’s Waitin

The-Looney-Looney-Looney-Bugs-Bunny-Movie-images-66eca51a-4038-4754-8c7d-ded6f4304bd081024-013

Using a premise from a short of the same name this act is about Yosemite Same trying to kill Bugs Bunny but constantly failing in many comedic ways each leaving him being sent back to hell. In my opinion this act stands out by showing a caring side to Bugs that we havent really seen in the past feature films. It begins with Bugs wanting to protect granny from Sam after she inherits 50 million dollars, each time Bugs manages to take out Sam, Sam is sent to a new time period by Satan to try again eventually leading to him giving up completely and accepting his fate.

I didnt really like this segment, at first it was great but the premise really dragged out longer than it needed too, it doesn’t help that I am a big fan of the original Sylvester and Tweety short that this is loosely based on and a short that I think is a lot funnier in comparison.

Act 2 The Unmentionables

This Act is really great and is by far my favourite part of the movie, it includes three shorts starring the gangster Rocky, these shorts are each spliced together with clever narration and direction to make it work smoothly.

This section does use one of the funniest Daffy Duck shorts Golden Yeggs, in this short the gangster Rocky steals Daffy Duck after he is expected to lay 24 carrot gold eggs, if you enjoy seeing Daffy Duck in an extremely uncomfortable situation and under serious stress then this is definitely the short for you.

Act 3 The Oswalds

The final act of the film is an awards cermony hosted by Bugs Bunny, an Oswald is an award given to an animated character for their performance in a short, I actually think this concept is really cool and I wish something like this did exist as a fun award ceremony for children to enjoy although to be honest I would probably still watch it myself.

This segment has four Looney Tunes shorts with the last one being worked into the plot of Act 3, my two favourites are Birds Anonymous where Sylvester tries to get help to overcome his addiction to eating birds. This short is really well directed and is extremely funny, it also gives a bit sympathy towards Sylvester who really wants to give up birds but he just does not have the will power to do it.

The other short is Show Biz Bugs this is a very well known short where Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck go head to head to out do each other on stage the joke being that Bugs always gets applauded but Daffy always gets booed eventually driving him to complete madness, in the end he does finally get an applause but it is what he had to do to gain that which what makes this short so cruelly hilarious.

The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie is not one that I could really recommend you watching for more than one viewing, while I did enjoy the shorts I did not enjoy the way they were stitched together, a lot of the sections seemed to drag on longer than necessary not to mention that having them edited and changed in places took away some of the charm of the originals. The best part of the movie was the Daffy Duck short from Act 2 and then the entirety of Act 3, I do not think this is a bad film I just wish it was a more similar to the Bugs Bunny/ Road Runner Movie which had a really nice mix of shorts with only a few being edited.

Overall a pretty fun movie but not one that I look forward to revisiting in the future.

Bugs Bunny’s Birthday Blowout (1990) Review

Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout - Label

Bugs bunny’ s Birthday Blowout is video for the Nintendo Entertainment System, it was developed by Kemco and was one of the last games released for the NES before the release of the Super Nintendo.

Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout (Nintendo Entertainment System)

Its Bugs Bunny’s 50th Birthday and he receives an invitation to a party celebration in his honour, Bugs is very excited however his other Looney Tunes friends are not happy that they were not told about this party so they go out of their way to prevent Bugs from arriving to the party location.

The game is a basic 2D plat-former where the main goal is too get from the start to the end of every level but this is a little more ambitious than is to be expected because these levels require a little exploration and thought due to tricky enemy placements and multiple paths with often only one of them allowing you to progress further.  The games beautiful art style and colour palette help to make the game a joy to explore in order to see all of the gorgeous backgrounds and imagery.

The games enemies can do a lot of damage if they come in contact with Bugs, you cant jump on them but they can be knocked out using a mallet to hit them on the head, I never really used this myself as I found it easier to jump over the enemies and avoid them.

The boss fights are really fun to encounter because all of them are based on various Looney Tunes characters, some of the encounters you may not expect such as Sylvester Jr and Hawky.

These are all very easy however and all of them fight in a similar manner, I wish they were more creative as none of them are very memorable.

Between levels you can use the carrots you’ve collected to earn some more lives in bonus games, in one game you need to line up numbers and in the other game you need to wack multiple weasels.

The soundtrack is quite fun but its very repetitive and the same tune plays throughout worlds only changing every few levels.

Bugs Bunny’s Birthday Blowout is not a perfect game as it falls short in a few places however it is a very solid plat-former, with great controls and is overall a lot of fun to play, I do wish the boss fights and sound track were more creative but I really enjoyed everything else and I cant think of many negatives to this one, this is better quality than most licensed games and with it being quite cheap to pick up I would recommend getting a copy to check it out for yourself
