A Plague Tale: Requiem is a survival horror/stealth game developed by Asobo Studios and is a sequel to 2019’s excellent Plague Tale: Innocence, the game released in 2022 for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and a cloud based version for Nintendo Switch.
6 months after the events of Innocence the De Rune family and Lucas are still on the road living in a house provided by the Order, Hugo has had his macula under control but due to stress brought on by a recent conflict he loses control and the rats come back. This time the power of the macula is much worse than before, it is slowly taking over Hugo and becoming a major threat to not only France but could easily spread world wide if not destroyed. The family are sent on a boat to Marseille but soon split up when conflicting opinions on whether Hugo needs to die or not cause a rift between Amicia and her mother, in a desperate bid to find a cure for her brothers illness her and Hugo head to the Island of La Cuna looking for a cure to the Macula, this island had only ever been seen before in Hugo’s dreams but does it really hold all of the answers?
The gameplay here is very similar to the previous entry, Amecia and co will be needing to sneak their way through most of this journey, the most common enemies are soldiers and with her trusty sling shot Amecia is able to easily kill those without helmets, unlike the first game this entry actually encourages different styles of play including violence, opportunism and remaining unseen, opportunism was my favourite because I like to collect anything I see and did find myself using found materials in crafts and alchemy.
In the game you can craft various secondary abilities including fire, extinguisher, flammable tar, and odor to attract rats. I used extinquish the most to easily take out enemies with the rats while still remaining out of ear shot. Speaking of rats now that Hugo’s power is revealed we can control the creatures in the majority of times they appear, the rats will eat Amecia alive but Hugo can take control to send them to the enemy soldiers instead.
A new whipping mechanic was added, it only appears every now and again as a way to get Amecia out of a pile of rats and has very limited use, it helped me more than once but ultimately it took away from the games difficulty when compared to innocence.
The chapters are still on set linear paths but there is more room for trying different strategies with larger and more open areas that hide more than their fair share of herbarium collectibles (now including feathers) and the larger areas giving players the chance to build up the three different playing styles.
A new collectible here is the souvenirs, these are hidden secrets in chapters that will trigger special dialogue and cutscenes between characters.
Visually the game is gorgeous on PS5 and is a vast improvement when compared to Innocence, with the success of the previous game it seems a higher budget was used here to give us a more more visually inspiring experience and while the differences between the two games are only small Requiems small adjustments such as more realistic skin tones, clothing textures and giving the rats more believable fur really does make a massive difference.
Olivier Deriviere returns to commit to the composition once again, the soundtrack really is fantastic and remains dark and eerie and giving off a vibe of loss, in the first game loneliness was a key element to the story and the soundtrack helped to emphasise those feelings and here while this part of Amecia and Hugo’s journey sees a lot more allies and new friends a new type of loss is clear, being lost on what to do and losing loved ones is definitely key to the story telling, while the soundtrack barely differs in style to innocence its adaptability works well for the emotional story telling of the narrative and in many ways it has a bigger impact on this story because as players we have had enough time throughout the two games to get attached to these characters.
After finishing Innocence I could not wait to get my hands on Requiem to see the next part of Amecia and Hugo’s journey, the game did not disappoint but also gave me something I never expected, one part of this game made me emotional and even got me to shed tears, I wont spoil which part but I rarely cry at games so this was unexpected, I think its mostly due to the games writing and how they get the players to connect with these characters and only want to see the best outcome for them.
Requiem is a fantastic game and I recommend playing it providing you finish Innocence first due to this being the second part to that already very story driven game.
9/10

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first fully 3D platformer in the Kirby series, it was developed by Hal Laboratories and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch videogame system in March 2022.
During his morning stroll across the Planet Popstar, Kirby and the the waddle dee’s are sucked into a mysterious dark vortex. Kirby awakens on a quiet beach and soon find himself in a land left to rot and succumb to neglect, the waddle dee’s have been stolen and its up to Kirby to fight his way across the various forgotten landscapes with the help of his new friend Elfillin and his brand new mouthful mode abilities in order to save his friends and defeat the cause of the vortex.
The gameplay while it is technically a 3D platformer it is quite linear apart from the occasional secret path which hides secrets. The game is split into 6 main worlds each with a different elemental theme and while fairly simple the levels do hide various collectables and each have missions to complete, this was a nice addition as it added additional challenge to the normal difficulty mode and added some replay value. The way the game feels is very similar to Super Mario 3D World with how it uses its camera angles and hides certain routes behind the need for various copy abilities.
Copy abilities are nothing new to the Kirby franchise becoming a staple after 1993’s Kirby’s Adventure for the NES, for those who don’t know Kirby can suck up enemies and consume their powers, gaining abilities such as bombs, drills, boomerang, sword, fire, ice and much more. In this game you can also pay coins and rare stones to upgrade these abilities once you discover blueprints hidden in certain stages.
Also new to the game is Mouthful Mode, Kirby is now able partially consume very large things which he can wrap his body around to control, here I have shown the cone that can body slam metal crates and break broken ground and the the car which can be used to travel fast and jump large gaps. I wont go over anymore of these as they really are one of the best things to discover in the game and with it still being fairly new at the time of writing this I don’t want to spoil the experience.
The boss fights are one of the biggest highlights of the game, they are all very memorable with the adorable but slightly threatening designs which capture the themes of the series perfectly, each fight is very unique and needs to be taken on with different approaches, also each boss has a weakness to specific copy abilities and it is up to the players to figure out which ones are best to use.
In between the main stages various challenge levels open up each is very short and is a great way to master the copy abilities and mouthful transformations. Each of the levels also has a time limit to beat for extra coins and these times can get very challenging, I did all of them but they don’t add towards your 100 percent completion so are not necessary and only really go as far as bragging rights.
After the main game there is still plenty of replay value in the package, you can continue to finish the level missions to get the waddle dee’s, you can also try and master the battle arenas which are boss rushes and once finished offer big cash prizes, you can also try to fill out your complete Gatcha collection, these can be purchased from machines in the main plaza but also can be earned by completing specific tasks, you can attempt to catch the biggest fish in the pond fishing game and finally there are five post game levels and a secret true final boss to beat so make sure you do those too. 100 percent completion of the game took me just under two weeks and I still want to go back to the game to do it all over again in the future.
The game is absolutely stunning, not only is this one of the best Nintendo Switch games in years it is also one of the best visually, the amount of detail that went into the games visuals is awe inspiring, this world looks like something out of an animated film and does hold some realism in its layout and overall designs, the game has no issues with lag and runs smoothly which is great considering every last detail was considered for the game including smaller things such as fish swimming beneath you in the water, fire flickering in the wind and releasing embers and even dust particles from disrupted mounds of dirt. We expect these details from more modern hardware’s such as the offerings from PlayStation and Xbox but for the Switch this really does go to show how a smaller graphics card can have a lot to offer as well.
The soundtrack is good but I would be somewhat lying if I said it held up when compared to past titles, the more modern spin we have here is fine and some of the more rock and roll versions of songs such as King Dedede’s theme is actually pretty sick, but I think most would agree that Kirby’s music just works much better in it’s original chip tune versions. When playing the game you wouldn’t really focus on the music as it does work but personally I just much prefer what we got before.
I don’t know what else there is to say,I was slightly worried about Kirby’s transition to 3D especially since the game was only announced six months or so before release and we didn’t know much about it, some additional video footage and a demo came out that I actively avoided so that I could go into this completely blind and I think I made the right choice because not only is this now officially the best Kirby game I have ever played but it is also one of the best games I have played in a long time and I really hope this is a sign that Nintendo are going to let the Switch go out with a bang before its next console is inevitably revealed but that is a discussion for another day.
Go and buy Kirby and Forgotten land it is a new start for the franchise and is easily up there with some of the best Nintendo Switch games 10/10

Guacamelee is a game that I avoided for a very long time as the advertisements never really appealed to me but now I feel a little silly that I left it for so long.
Guacamelee was developed and published by Drinkbox Studios, its a metroidvania style game based in Mexixo and was released in 2014 for the PS3, PC, PS4,PS VITA XBOX 360, XBOX ONE and the Wii U, the game was later released in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch which is the version I played.
A young Mexican named Juan is about to propose to his childhood love interest the El Presidente’s daughter, however she is unfortunately kidnapped by a Charro Skeleton named Carlos who kills Juan sending him down to the underworld, he is given a luchador mask which gives him the powers of a Mexican warrior and he is brought back to the land of the living to rescue and reunite with his true love.
As a metroidvania style game, players are immediately able to explore the majority of the large in game map and areas. In the game you can find Chozo statues which grant Juan new abilities such as wall jumping, smashing through specialist blocks, flying across large spaces and a temporary increase in strength.
Later on the ability to swap between the world of the living and the world of the dead as well turn into a chicken will allow you to platform further and explore tight areas.
There is also an in game store which allows players to purchase new costumes which each have unique advantages, you can also change characters to other in game NPC’s for new and unique ways to play. New abilities can also be bought along with health and power upgrades.
I also think it is important to make it clear that up to four players can play simultaneously in the campaign.
The visuals of the game are very impressive for what can only be considered an indie game. Im not saying that independent developers cant make beautiful visuals because in many cases indie do this better than triple A titles but there is something about Guacamelee’s style that really drew me in. The game is very well animated and during gameplay enemies look and appear in a modern cartoon style. Don’t get me wrong this not as good in visual style as a game like Cuphead but it is still very impressive.
I am lost for words on just how amazing this soundtrack is, it was composed by Rom Di Prisco and Peter Chapman, it uses a mixture of mariachi band music and remixed dance music for a beautiful collaboration which is absolutely perfect in every sense, I love every track in this game and have downloaded the official soundtrack to my phone and honestly its not often that an indie game can encourage me to do that.
Guacamelee is a massive surprise to me because I didn’t think I would like it because original trailers for the game failed to pull me in. Now I wish I did play this back in 2014 because it really is an almost perfect game, it has an decent plot, great visuals, excellent and challenging gameplay and an insanely good soundtrack. Unfortunately it does fall short of full marks for me because there are two things that really bother me about it.
The first is the side quests, there are not many in the game and they all feel a little bit pointless as they are mainly only in one or two areas of the game.
The other issue really takes away from metroidvania style this was going for because the game tells the player where they need to go for the main quest, there is no part of this game that makes you feel lost or confused which may sound like a good thing but is the polar opposite of what can considered a metroidvania style game, this feels a lot more like a 2d platformer with some secret passages and upgrades to find.
But I think if you only focus on the main quest then this is a phenomenal game its just for me I have to look at everything and its these tiny little setbacks which are going to leave Guacamelee at a 9.8/10
With that go and download this game if you haven’t played it, it really is fantastic and I am looking forward to eventually covering the sequel.

Animal Crossing is a popular social video game series where a human character moves to a town or village inhabited by animals, the games are known to give each player a unique experience with every play-through having different villagers and things to do. Players are also encouraged to be creative in the games and every game is able to be played in real time with the seasons and holidays being accurate to real life because of this each game is intended to be played daily until the next entry is released.
In this article we will be looking at all of the main series entries as well as its spin offs.
I haven’t played these games in a very long time so I will be using images from others peoples villages so if yours is on here and you want it removed please let me know at the email address on my contact page.
Animal Crossing was originally released for the Nintendo 64 in Japan, this version was never released worldwide and the rest of us got introduced to the series through the GameCube version which was enhanced with new features and better graphics.
The main goal in all of the games was to pay off a property that you have on a mortgage with Tom Nook, every-time you gain enough bells by selling bugs, shells, fish and other things you collect, you can pay off your home which will make it bigger, you repeat this process until you have the biggest home available in the game.
On a side note you can also find and collect fossils, bugs and fish which can be sent to Blathers the Owl at the Faraway Museum for analysing.
You can have many villagers join your village, they will either stay or leave depending on how you communicate with them, many of them will ask you do tasks for them, in the first Animal Crossing game you could have 15 villagers in your village at one time.
In the game players could, find, trade and be gifted games for the NES, all of these games were fully playable and this idea was really revolutionary at the time.
Two of these games could only be accessed using e-reader cards, and two more were giveaways to certain players, The Legend of Zelda for NES was in the games code but was never put into the final game.
Some of these games could even be transferred to the Gameboy Advance using the GBA link cable.
Using a GBA Link cable players are also able to access a secret island that a character named Kapp’n can take them too, on this island is a hidden villager and special fruit such as coconuts.
The GBA can also be used to create special clothing designs at the Able Sisters shop.
Animal Crossing on the Gamecube is the version I played and to this day I still think its a great game to play over and over again, there are so many cool things to do, there are the NES games to find as well meeting interesting characters such as Tom Nook, Kapp’n, Tortimer and K.K Slider who have all become fan favourites K.K slider is particularly fun because he plays music for you and then gives you a copy of the track which you can play whenever you want giving collectors another thing to collect. Animal Crossing is a chilled out experience but also a really immersive game that is still one my favourites.
In 2005 we got Animal Crossing Wild World for the Nintendo DS, in my opinion there is not much new material here and this is more of a enhanced port of the original game than it is a sequel.
Because the DS used dual screens the sky above the player would move as the character moved making the game a little more realistic and immersive than the original
The use of the DS stylus made certain aspects of the game such as creating patterns and writing letters a lot easier than they were on a controller.
What is consider to be the best new addition was the ability to visit other peoples villages over the Nintendo WiFi connection, this was really cool but you could only visit villages using someones DS friend code and you were unable to connect to a random village. Online was able to be used in the game until 2014 when the service was closed down.
Apart from this there wasn’t many differences to the game-cube version, there were no retro games this time around and apart from online I cant think of any reason why this version would be superior.
Animal Crossing Wild World is in my opinion the weakest game in the main series, this does not mean that its bad, it just lacked new features and it was missing certain elements from the original game and its for that reason why I think it’s not as good.
In 2008 we got the third main series Animal Crossing game for the Nintendo Wii in the US it was called Animal Crossing: City Folk but over in Europe our version was called Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City.
The base game of City Folk was very similar to the previous entries and not much was added as new content however for the first time a new area could be accessed without the use of a second games system. This new area was the City, players could access this area by hoping on a bus driven by Kapp’n. In the City you can take part in various activities including shopping, getting your haircut, bidding on items and visiting the local theatre, I really enjoy the city area of the game as its a nice distraction from the regular village.
A new peripheral was available with the game, this was Wii Speak an electronic device that allowed you to talk with other players in real time using voice chat. I never owned one of these myself so I am unable to comment on its quality, other devices that could be used with the game were the Nintendo DS, you could use the DS to transfer you character and other elements from Wild World to City Folk and for easy messaging in the game you could use a PC keyboard instead of the wii-mote pointer.
It should also be noted that using a service called Wii Connect 24 players were able to order special items from Nooks Store, during special events Nintendo would release special clothing and items that could be downloaded into the game, this service was shut down in 2013 upon the release of the Wii U.
Even though there wasn’t many new things added to this game it managed to maintain the charm present in previous games, it never tried to over whelm the player with new content and it was clear that Nintendo knew what the fans wanted, with only few extra additions Animal Crossing: City Folk was a really nice entry to the series it was as good as we expected it to be without it being to ambitious.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012 it was the fourth game released in the main series and at this moment it is still the most recently available main entry game, the game also introduced players to new series character Isabelle.
The game came with the usual fare of Animal Crossing game-play such as fishing, collecting shells and bugs and selling items for bells but a major change was the player being mistaken for the town mayor, this opened up many new types of game play.
As the mayor you are now able to modify to the majority of the village, you can add new buildings, you can fund projects and construction jobs such as adding bridges and fountains to the town, also as the mayor the villagers will ask you for help in various ways, they did this in previous games but the jobs were never anything memorable and were usually delivering an item from one villager to another.
Another thing you can do as Mayor is ordinances this works somewhat in a similar manner to legal laws, you can use ordinances to control how certain aspects of your village and residents work, for example you could ask for more trees or flowers to be planted or you could change what time the local shops will open and close.
The special island re-appeared in this game, players could go over to the Island to collect bugs and fish not available in the regular village and some mini games could also be played over on the island.
new mini-games were added to the Island in a free update.
Multiplayer returned along with being able to visit your friends towns, the dream suite feature allows players to visit dream like versions of random players towns over Nintendo Wifi Connection, another really cool online feature allowed you to view players homes that you found via the 3DS street pass, you were even able to buy the items that they stored in their homes.
The last feature I will talk about is the sewing machine in the Able Sisters shop, by using this machine you could create QR codes for the patterns and designs you create, other players can scan these using their 3DS cameras to download the patterns.
Animal Crossing New Leaf is one of the best games available on Nintendo 3DS, it changed up the game play while still remaining respectful of its purpose, it was a nice change of pace and its new features made the game more playable and kept players interested with its consistent game play with plenty of things to do.
Animal Crossing Home Designer was the first spin off game in the Animal Crossing series, the game had players designing multiple homes for villagers and trying to design the decor and furniture to suit their needs. It was released in September of 2015.
In this game the main focus is designing homes so there is no mortgages to pay off, different villagers will hire you to theme there homes on specific things this adds a bit of challenge to the game and also encourages creativity and imagination. The shops have returned from the main series however more items are available from the get go and more can be unlocked as you progress through the game.
The game also incorporated Amiibo cards that could be used to invite main series villagers to join parties in the town, you might even get the opportunity to design homes for these characters.
Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival was released in November 2015, it was based on the Mario Party video game series, the goal of the game is to make your villager the happiest in town.
In the game players will roll a dice to move around the board and you will see events, depending on how these events turn out you will either gain or lose happy points and at the end of the game the player with the most happy points wins.
The game gave us animal crossing amiibos, by scanning these amiibos into the game you could then play as those characters, you could also scan amiibo cards to play some minigames with your friends.
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is a free to play mobile game that was released Worldwide for android and IOS in November 2017.
Surprisingly this mobile version of the series is not much different to the main series games that we have come to love, the biggest difference was that it was based on building a campsite instead of a village but apart from that the core game-play remains almost the same, I personally think that this game had much more memorable events and holidays as some of these were based on other Nintendo series.
Like similar games on mobile, the core game is free to download and play but things take a long time to build and require a lot of patience however if you are feeling up to it you can use real currency to purchase Leaf tickets to speed up the process, the tickets can also be used to build things that you may not have the correct materials for.
The Latest main series title Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released for the Nintendo Switch on March 20th 2020.
In the game players need to choose an Island layout before being shipped to that Island, from here a naming ceremony is held along with a bonfire party, this part of the game is mandatory and is the only time the game is not following real time. Once the player goes to sleep real time and seasons will start and the Animal Crossing experience will begin.
A really fun crafting system has now been introduced to the series, players are able to gather materials from trees, rocks and other things in the game to combine and make furniture, new tools and decor, special recipe cards can be discovered or traded allowing players to add more craft-able items to the list.
The staple Bell Currency is back as usual however this time it is joined with a new type of currency called Nook Miles, Nook Miles allow you to purchase special items and updates to your game, this includes visiting new islands, upgrading item storage and general enhancements to the experience of the game. You gain this currency by finishing special tasks acting in a similar way too an achievement system, along with main nook goals special daily goals are available as well.
Late into the game, players can unlock an Island Designer mode, this mode allows the player to edit their islands by removing specific terrain or creating rivers and cliffs, this allows a serious amount of customisation in the game.
The game can bug although this does not happen, there is a rescue service option available which can help the player in these circumstances by spawning them back at their house, it does cost 100 Nook miles to use.
Swimming was introduced to Animal Crossing: New Horizons allowing players dive for deep sea creatures a new addition to the museum.
The last thing I feel needs to be mentioned here is the lack of Mr Resetti, for those who don’t know, Mr Resetti is a frequent character in the series who would scold a player when they forgot to save their game or when they reset their town, the character has been removed from New Horizons due to the Auto Save system.
In 2021 fans were given a major update to the game which brought back fan favourite characters, Brewster returns along with his cafe.
Cap’n is back and can take players to random mysterious islands where they can find unusual materials that are more difficult to find otherwise.
Harvs Island upgrades to allow us to open stores and make special sets for his photography.
General updates such as new ways to use the camera, group stretching activity were added, new ways to upgrade your home decor and general design and more items have been added to purchase via nook miles. We can now also add lighting and decoration to our roofs and for the first time in the series history we can cook using different recipes.
An finally Gyroids have returned and can now be customised to fit your tastes.
Happy Home Paradise is a new Animal Crossing designer game that was added as a DLC to the base game, this is an entire game on its own but only can only be accessed if you own a copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game is very similar to Happy Home Designer and has a similar premise of creating homes for different animal residents and trying to build the houses to match the required theming for each client.
You do get paid for your work but only in a currency that can be spent on the design island however these furniture and clothing items can be taken to your own island and are each unique to those who own the DLC.
And that is where we are left with the Animal crossing series to date, I find it hard not to love this series for its simplicity, cuteness and relaxed atmosphere, I will update the new horizons segment if major updates are added but for now we will continue this series with the next games release.

Yoshi’s Crafted World is the eight installment in the Yoshi series of video games and it is the follow up to the Wii U game Yoshi’s Wooly World, it was developed by Good Feel and was published by Nintendo on the Nintendo Switch in March 2019.
The Yoshi’s are living happily on Yoshi’s Island, a magical artifact called the sundream stone is beloved by the Yoshi’s. The artifact is filled with magical gems which can make someones dreams come true.
One unfortunate day the naughty baby Bowser and his henchman Kamek steal the sundream stone, the Yoshi’s try to stop the robbery which ends with the gems being scattered across the island, leaving the inhabating Yoshi’s to race baby Bowser and Kamek to collect the gems.
The game play for the most part is your standard 2.5D platformer with regular Yoshi game play, your main goal is to get from beginning to end of each stage by eating enemies to turn them into eggs and then throwing those eggs to either kill other enemies or to find secrets and collect items, however there is a little more meat to this game which makes it stand out compared to previous titles.
The biggest change in gameplay is that you can now revisit a level and go through it backwards allowing you to see items and scenery that you couldn’t see before, the main idea of these levels is that you need to find poochy’s missing puppies, every flipped level has three puppies to find and doing so will allow you get more smiley flowers.
Smiley flowers are hidden in the levels, the majority of them are very easy to find but some are much trickier, you need to collect these flowers in order to gain access to the various locations in the game.
After you beat a world you can go back through the stages to find specific items as part of a scavenger hunt and in this mode if you find the requested item you will given a new smiley flower, this is a lot of fun to do but it does get tedious after a while. I wish they gave you a checklist instead of making you replay each stage multiple times as it becomes a bit of drag after an hour or so of seeing the same scenery.
Another collectible in the game are costumes, these can be purchased from gashapon machines in each world, every world has 10 unique costumes which can help Yoshi in tougher areas of the game.
You dont need to collect all of this extra stuff and I dont really think its worth the time unless you want the game to feel a little bit longer but I will say that compared to Wooly World the collection aspect of Crafted World is much more entertaining.
The best part of the game for me has got to be its wonderfully creative visual style, everything in the game apart from a few enemies is made out of a craft whether its paper mache, origami, carpentry or even balloons everything is so charming its hard not to want to play the game just to see how creative the developers have been.
The soundtrack is nice to listen too and it fits the style of game, there isnt any really memorable tracks here but the simple melodies and the cute tunes helps to make the game feel more relaxing until the last hour or so of the campaign.
Yoshi’s Crafted World is a simple but brilliant game, it is a lot of fun and can be enjoyed by players of all ages. It has easy to learn controls, is a treat to look at and has plenty of content before and after fishing the main story. There is enough bonus stuff that it can easily double the length of the campaign. The only issue I have is the scavenger hunts you can do because as previously stated it gets boring to revisit the same stages constantly but with that in mind I would say that this is one of Yoshi’s greatest video games yet and it is well worth its price tag.
9.8/10
I hope you enjoyed this review of Yoshi’s Crafted World

With the latest game being released earlier this month it is finally time to take a look at what I consider to be the most important changes throughout Nintendo’s popular fighting game franchise
A quick explanation of the game series is that all of Nintendo’s biggest franchises come together in a battle for the ages, this is no ordinary fighting game series however because instead of draining health bars the goal is to try and knock your opponent out of the arena by either knocking them off the edge of a map or by dealing enough damage that you can knock them into oblivion with a few hits.
Each character has unique moves and abilities which need to be learned to become a master of using the character, most people eventually stick with a main character they play as so it’s best to try them all to see who suits your fighting style the best.
The games also had various collectibles in the form of trophies, character bios, characters and stages.
Super Smash Bros was released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 it was directed by Masahiro Sakurai, developed by Hal Laboratories and Published by Nintendo
The first Super Smash Bros game had a fairly small roster with only 8 characters to start with and 12 altogether
Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Samus, Yoshi, Pikachu, Kirby and Fox are the starters and Luigi, Caption Falcon, Ness and Jiggly Puff are all unlockable.
The game came with 9 battle stages and four modes, the modes being single player, training, break the targets and board the platforms.
Break the targets had players needing to break a certain number of targets within a time limit with each character having a unique level.
During board the platforms players had too jump on 10 floating platforms as quickly as possible with each character having a unique stage.

In 2001 we got Super Smash Bros Melee, it was released on the Nintendo GameCube and was one of the main reasons for the consoles success it sold more than 7 million copies, directed by Masahiro Sakurai the game was developed by HAL laboratories and Intelligent Systems and it was published by Nintendo.
The game features 25 playable characters with some characters needing certain tasks completed in order to fight them in a battle to add them to your roster Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pickachu, Captain Falcon, Ness, Peach, Bowser, Zelda and Ice Climbers are all available from the get go while Jiggly Puff, Luigi, Dr Mario, Pichu, Falco, Marth, Young Link, Ganondorf, Mewtwo, Roy and Mr Game and Watch are all unlock-able throughout the game.
The game also comes with 29 stages, 18 stages are available from the beginning while the remaining 11 are all unlockable.
Board the platforms was missing from this game however every other mode from the first game was here as well as new modes adventure mode, all star mode, event match, home run contest and multi man melee were added.
Adventure mode was very similar to classic mode as it followed a similar formula and concept however the stages were longer and some of the levels required the player to complete challenges.
All star mode puts the player against an army of humanoid characters in a fight to the death.
Event match was a super fun mission mode where players had to complete missions each with a unique theme and challenge
Multi man melee has the player in a battle with a handful of other enemies that are easy to knock out but become more difficult through out the match, this mode can be extremely challenging at times but is a blast to play.
In home run contest players would have to attack a sandbag with a baseball bat trying to deal as much damage as they can within 10 seconds with the idea being to hit the sandbag far across the field.
During Multiplayer some fun changes in the rules made matches both more entertaining and more challenging, these modes are as follows Super Sudden Death, Giant Melee, Tiny Melee, Invisible Melee, Slo-Mo Melee, Single Button Melee, Lightning Melee, Stamina Mode and Tournament Mode.

Super Smash Bros Brawl was released in 2008 for the Nintendo Wii and was the third game in the Super Smash Bros franchise the game was again directed by Masahiro Sakarai, it was developed by Hal Laboratories along side, SORA, Game Arts, Monolith Soft, Paon and Intelligent Systems.
Brawl was the first game in the series that supported various controller types, the standard Wii mote, a Wii mote and Nunchuck, a Gamecube controller and the Wii Classic controller were all able to connect up the console when playing the game.
The game had 39 playable characters, 25 were available from the get go while the remaining 14 needed to be unlocked by completing challenges throughout the game, some characters could be unlocked through the Sub Space Emissary, this was also the first game in the series to add third party characters the the roster.
Mario, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Peach, Link, Zelda, Samus, Fox, Pikachu, Ice Climbers, Diddy Kong, Meta Knight, King Dedede, Zero Suit Samus, Pokemon Trainer, Lucas, Ike, Pit, Wario and Captain Olimar were the starting roster while Ness, Marth, Luigi, Falco, Captain Falcon, Lucario, ROB, Ganondorf, Mr Game and Watch, Sonic the Hedgehog, Solid Snake, Jigglypuff, Toon Link and Wolf were unlockable through the game.
The game also had 41 battle stages and included the ability to build your own stages which you could play with your friends.
Classic Mode, All Star Mode, Event Match, Stadium, Home Run Contest, Target Test, Multi Man Melee, Training Mode and Adventure Mode returned here however Adventure Mode was now called the Sub Space Emissary, the Sub Space Emissary was an epic story mode with CGI cut-scenes and various stages, the mode lasted around 8 hours in length which is the longest mode for any Smash Bros game so far, many fans disliked the Sub Space Emissary but I personally had a really good time with it.
Boss Battle Mode was a new addition to the Stadium mode which has players competing in a boss rush against every boss in the game.

The fourth game in the series was the first to be released on more than one system, it was released on the 3DS and the Wii U in 2014, it was developed by Bandai Namco and SORA, published by Nintendo and directed by Masahiro Sakarai, this was also the first game in the series to introduce amiibo compatability, you could scan you amiibos into the game in order to train them up to fight either against other amiibos or yourself
Due to the game being released on two systems I will be discussing both in this section and using images from both versions of the game.

Bowser Jr, Ness, Ganondorf and Jigglypuff and available when you first boot up the game.
Ryu from Street Fighter, Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy Seven, Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Corrin and Bayonetta all needed to be purchased from the E-shop as they were DLC
Each game came with many battle stages to choose from, the 3DS version for the game had 42 stages and 8 stages of DLC while the Wii U version of the game had 55 stages and 9 DLC stages, only 13 battle stages are featured in both versions of the game.
Classic mode, All Star mode, Home-Run Contest, Target Blast, Multi Man Melee, Event mode and Training Return, Event mode is only available in the Wii U version of the game.
The new modes here are Street Smash where you would use Street Pass to try and knock an opponents token off a board, this was a 3DS exclusive mode.
The Wii U version of the game had two brand new modes which were exclusive to the console the first was Master Orders where players would have to complete challenges set by Master Hand in order to win prizes, players would have to use tickets they win throughout other modes in the game to play this mode.
The last new mode in the game was the Trophy box which was a mode which simply displayed the collectibles you unlocked throughout the game.

Now every character has a unique classic mode which is suited to the character and the boss that they fight at the end tends to suit their unique game worlds.
Spirits are new to the series and can be leveled up individually to help enhance their unique features and abilities, you attach spirits to a fighter in order to help them in battle, every spirit has a different ability for example one spirit might grant immunity to lava while another might allow a player to start a match with a rocket belt.
There are two ways to obtain spirits one way is by playing through the games adventure mode now called World of Light, this story mode has the player travelling across a vast world in order to save various possessed Nintendo characters from a great threat, the other way is through a mode called spirit board where you can quickly defeat enemies in order to win spirits.

And that is where we are left for now with the Super Bros Series, there has been rumors that there may not be anymore after Ultimate although I find that hard to believe but whether the rumors are true or not it has been a lot of fun taking a look at this ever expanding game series.

Wow I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I done one of these
After missing out on the Splatoon 2, Arms and Kirby demo I didnt really want to not try Nintendo’s latest Mario Tennis game before it’s release on June 22nd.
Before diving into what is on offer in this demo I want to address why I was previously afraid for this game, I’ve never played many of the Mario sports titles but the tennis games have always stood out to me, I remember my first introduction being the GameCube title which was a great game.
Not to mention the game boy and game boy advance games that were both RPGs and again fantastic games, so you can imagine now and everyone else disappointment when Mario Tennis Ultra Smash came out for the Wii U and it lacked all the specials moves, interesting court themes and charm of the prevous games, it quickly became one of the most hated games of the last generation which caused me anxiety when Mario Tennis Aces was announced.
The event given through the demo is an all weekend tennis tournament with two modes available a standard tennis mode and a mode with all the powers and abilities.
I only played the game type that had powers on but compared to the last game in the series so far this one is brilliant and the content available through the demo is really good, having almost full access to multiplayer for an entire weekend is really great considering its a free download, my general performance was ok but I still have lots to learn about how to play the game, atleast I will have plenty of time to do that when the full game is released on June 22nd
Thankyou for reading my views on the Mario tennis aces online Tournament Want me to review a specific game/movie/product or do you have a general question you would like me to answer? if so please email me at ragglefragglereviews@gmail.com
It’s been over two years since the release of the original Splatoon so it was no surprise when the sequel was announced during the Switch reveal earlier this year and even though this review is over a month late due to all the new content in Splatoon 2 I am finally ready to talk about this much anticipated game.
The single player story mode hasn’t changed much since the first game but there are a few small differences, first of all you are now playing as Agent 4 and not Agent 3 from the first game, the plot still revolves around rescuing the great zapfish from an unknown threat, there are five areas which each hold multiple stages and a boss fight, apart from using some of the newer weapons which I will get into later the game play hasn’t changed a lot the objective is to rescue the zapfish by getting from point A to point B, each stage has a different obstacle for example some levels require the player to fill up sponge platforms with ink in order too increase the platforms size, another obstacle requires the player too activate buttons in order to change and rearrange some platforms in order to reach the goal.
The Boss fights follow a similar design as before however they still offer a fresh experience for players returning to the series. my favourite of these new bosses is the Octo Oven a giant toaster which requires the player to avoid its nasty attacks until the bread pops out of its oven doors allowing the player to maneuver their way to the top of the boss and hit its weak point.
Turf War is the main mode in Splatoon 2, just like in the first game players will team up with other players online, each player is separated into two teams and the goal is too ink as much turf as possible, the team that inks the most turf by the end of the game wins.
All of the old weapon types return for Splatoon 2 so you can still play with the splattershot, splat roller and the inkbrush however many new weapon types have been added to the series two of my favourite new editions include the splat dualies which is similar to the original splattershot but the player holds 2 guns (1 in each hand) and they hold half the amount of ink, another fave of mine is the splatbrella an umbrella weapon which can fire a shotgun blast while also protecting the player from enemy fire in a similar manner to the movie Kingsman a Secret Service.
Ranked Battle is back and its more intense than ever, there are three modes available the first is splat zones where teams must go up against each other to try and splat certain areas of the map and then keep that area inked in their colour in order to win the game, next up is tower control where players must ride a moving tower into enemy territory to reach the goal and finally there is the mode I suck at the most rain maker, the rain maker is a special powerful weapon which players must carry into the enemy base without being splated by the opposing team.
Once you reach rank B minus you can try your hand at league battles, a league battle is 2 hours long and they allow competitive players to battle it out in ranked battle modes without being able to lose their level
A brand new mode introduced to the series, salmon run is a horde survival mode where players must destroy hordes of enemy AI and bosses in order to gain experience points and golden eggs, the golden eggs must be picked up and dropped off at the collection point and if all players are dead in the game then salmon run is over, salmon run is awesome and by far the best part of the game but unfortunately its only available during certain times of the year.
Whats to be said other than Splatoon 2 is amazing and is a great reason to buy a Nintendo Switch, my complaints from the first game still stand I wish you could choose maps and game modes instead of them being swapped out during 2 hour time slots, the amiibo support here really sucks compared to the first game as it only allows you to save another players gear to the amiibo for a quick costume and weapon swap between games and mini games such as squid jump have been removed completely, however putting this aside the graphics and music are as fresh as ever and the addition of salmon run is enough for me to rate this game a little bit higher by giving it an off the hook 9.5/10
I hope you enjoyed my review of Splatoon 2

One of the biggest announcements for the new Zelda game coming out in the next couple of days was that Nintendo is adding Downloadable content which is a first for a main series Zelda title, as you can imagine this announcement has split fans, some people including myself couldn’t care less but others have been cancelling their pre-orders for the game.
First of all this is not the first time Nintendo has added DLC to their games, they added new tracks and characters to Mario Kart and new stages and fighters to Super Smash Bros Wii U/3DS, I don’t recall so many people complaining when DLC for those games were announced but to be fair Breath of the Wild is a bit of a special case because not only is it a single player experience but Nintendo announced DLC before the game had even been released which lets be honest was a fairly stupid move on Nintendo’s part.
So whats my stance on this whole DLC malarkey? well like I said I don’t care about DLC in general and it isn’t likely that I will buy DLC for any games that are not Mario Kart or Splatoon, I don’t agree with any first party single player games having DLC (Zelda, Mario, Metroid and so on) but I can understand paying to add new content in multiplayer games at a reasonable price of course, I feel that having DLC in single player games takes away a lot of the fun, I remember when I was younger you could unlock additional content in games by performing certain tasks, I will still never forget the first time I unlocked the original Prince of Persia game in the Sands of Time.
On a final note though I will say that we shouldn’t look at Nintendo as if they are different to every other game company in the world, yes they are late to some of these awful video game practices but every other company has been doing it for years and we all seem ok with them so why shouldn’t we give Nintendo the same respect and just accept the changes they are wanting to make, even if we don’t particularly agree with those changes.
Either way in only two days we will all be able to play on the Nintendo Switch and I personally cannot wait to run around Hyrule again without the dumb expansion packs.
I hope you enjoyed this semi rant
That’s it for Nintendo Switch Content now until we eventually get around to Reviewing Breath of the Wild which I’m hoping to have reviewed by the end of April depending on how long the game is.

The Nintendo Switch is officially less than 10 days away from release and while there are a lot of games which have been announced I am only genuinely excited for three of them, those being Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and of course the long awaited Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but what about the games that haven’t been announced?
These are the 5 games I want to be announced for the Nintendo Switch…..hopefully at E3
HD Remakes
Lets get the boring one out of the way first, Nintendo are great at making new games and expanding the universes of their video game characters but I still want to see more of their old games getting remade with modern graphics and controls, we all want Mario Sunshine and Luigi’s Mansion HD and so do I but I think some of Nintendo’s older titles would benefit from HD remakes, imagine being able to play Mario 64 in 1080p and without the dodgy controls and what about a HD remake of Donkey Kong 64 or Pilot Wings, there are a lot of titles that would be great as HD remakes but for me personally I would like to see a HD Metroid Prime Trilogy or HD Pikmin and Pikmin 2.
Animal Crossing
This November will mark the fifth anniversary of Animal Crossing New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS, I think its time for a brand new Animal Crossing game and what better system to do this on than the Nintendo Switch, honestly I have never enjoyed the handheld Animal Crossing games as much as the ones released on stay at home systems and if released on the switch an Animal Crossing game would suit what I want and it could also be played as a handheld game for those who prefer playing on the go, so everyone wins however there are some major changes I want made to the series, first of all I want more creativity when it comes to building your town and by this I mean that players are able to build the islands themselves from the ground up also I think at this point we should be able to play as an animal if we want too, how about a character building mode where we can create our own characters in very unique and creative ways, I wont go into too many details on this as it may become an article of its own at some point.
Pikmin 4
Ok so Pikmin 4 has technically been announced for years but it hasn’t been announced for the Nintendo Switch so I still think this counts, I love cute things and the Pikmin games are no exception I like how Nintendo have taken a subject as dark as the extinction of the human race and made an adorable game series where you play as space captains who run around earth and control strange plant creatures to collect fruits and relics that have been left behind by humans, I haven’t gotten around to playing the third game yet but its on my to do list but in the mean time I hope Nintendo hurry’s up with Pikmin 4.
F-Zero
I think Mario Kart is a great game series but we get one or two of those every year, but we havent had an F-Zero game since 2003, for those who don’t know F-Zero is a fast paced racing game that takes place in space, the games went on to spawn an amazing anime series and F-Zero was one of the biggest inspirations for the Hovercraft’s in Mario Kart 8, I don’t know why this series stopped but many would agree that it needs to return in big ways.
Luigi’s mansion 3 plus a Dark Moon Port
I loved both of the Luigi’s Mansion games and I would really like to see a Luigi’s mansion 3, the changes I want to make in these games may surprise you but I think they could work, first of all I want Mario out of the game completely I think Luigi’s brother gets enough of the spotlight already, I want multiple playable characters which all have unique abilities and must be switched constantly to solve puzzles, some ideas of characters could be a toad, Luigi (obviously), Professor E-Gadd and Princess Daisy, also a new and more menacing villain and a scarier premise, that is my dream Luigi’s Mansion game and although I cant imagine this will ever happen I will still want a Luigi’s Mansion 3 and I know a lot of you guys do too.
Those are the top 5 games I want announced for the Nintendo Switch
Which games are on your list
I hope you enjoyed this article
Next week will be an article of my opinions of Nintendo DLC and how it could either succeed or fail
