Walt Disneys Snow white and the seven dwarfs review

image

As well as being the first animated movie by Disney Snow White and the seven dwarfs is also the first full length animated movie to ever be made so it only seems right to pay tribute to it.

Released in 1937 Snow White and the seven dwarfs is the story of a young princess called Snow White (named for having skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony). The Evil Queen gets told by her mirror that Snow White is pretty than her and the Evil Queen is not having this so she hires a hunter to kill Snow White and bring back her heart. In the mean time Snow White falls in love with a prince who quite literally only has a few lines in the whole movie and most of those lines are sung, any way the hunter finds Snow White but he won’t kill her because apparently she is to pretty and so he tells her to run away and instead he brings what I believe is the heart of a pig to the evil queen. It isnt long until the Queen finds out that Snow White is still alive and shes decides to kill Snow White herself the Evil Queen poisons an apple and takes the form of an old hag before hunting for Snow White

image

Snow white finds 7 Dwarfs (Happy, Sneezy, Grumpy,Sleepy,Bashful, Dopey and Doc) and she hides out in their cavern, the Dwarfs go to work in he mines and The Evil Queen finds snow white in her hag form and she offers her he apple.

image

Snow White takes a bite out of the Apple and she dies, the Queen takes off not realising that Snow White can be brought back to life with a kiss from her true love.

image

For a film that came out in 1937 I have got to say I’m impressed the animation is spectacular for the time, the film has some very delightful songs and as a whole its a very enjoyable film. I recommend seeing this one not just because its a good film also because it is Walt Disneys first animated movie making it a very important part of animation history.

Dance crazes?

I want to take some time to talk about Michael Jackson

image

Michael Jackson was one of the greatest dancers of all time,  he created some amazing and now world famous dance moves like the lean and the moon walk. The man was truly a genius who as well as becoming a very well known celebrity he also showed the world that dancing is not just a hobby or a pass time, its a passion and Michael shared his passion for Dance with the entire world.

image

Recently dance crazes have hit the scene all over the UK to my knowledge there are only two at the moment Gangham Style and the more recent craze the Harlem Shake so these will be the two I shall discuss.

Gangham Style

The first of the Dance Crazes is Gangham Style, Gangham Style is a rodeo like dance craze which was created for Korean artist PHY for his music video which is also called Gangham Style. The dance its self dosent bother me that much I actually find it to be a very creative dance my favourite part is when PHY pretends to ride a horse. Like I said the dance dosent annoy me but what does annoy me is the song in the music video, I have hated that god forsaken song ever since it got popular all I hear is wub sounds and a whole bunch of lyrics that aren’t even in English apart from one line “Hey sexy lady”  which gets repeated now and again. I don’t see the point in PSY singing a song mostly in Korean and then using one English line occasionally that would be like me writing a blog and then writing it in Spanish half way through.

image

The Harlem Shake

Someone please explain why this is popular I have honestly watched a whole bunch of videos to try and understand why people like the Harlem Shake but all I’m seeing is people air humping for a few seconds before having a wobble fit  with randomness in the background when the bass drops. Is this real life, is this what the world has come to because if it is I want to bring you all back to Michael Jackson.

image

I’m not saying its wrong to like these Dance Crazes to be honest all I want is answers to why their so popular because honestly I don’t get it.

Time Lord (NES) Review

Today I review a game called time lord , now from looking at the cover you may think that the game looks awesome and you instantly want to buy it but beware hide your wallets and stay far away because behind that awesome cover art is a real video game demon.

image

Story

Time lord released in 1991 by Milton Bradley is based in the year 2999 it is January 1st and the earth is under attack by aliens, the aliens have sent armies to four historical locations with a plan to destroy the earth on January 1st 3000, the goverment send a time lord to travel to the four historical locations and wipe out the aliens before the planet is destroyed and to save mankind.

image

Gameplay

You take control of the time lord in this side scrolling action platformer and you need travel to all four historical locations (Medieval England 1250 AD, Western USA 1860 AD, Caribbean 1650 AD and France 1943 AD) before heading to the final stage to fight the Alien leader. Time lord suffers from a lot of issues within its game play you see before the player can fight a levels end boss they need to find and collect 5 orbs which they can use to power the time machiene to get to each location, the problem is that the game is so glitchy that sometimes these orbs don’t turn up so the only option is to die or hit reset, another issue is that the game is pretty much impossible due to it being time based, that’s right that one year or the planet is destroyed actually has the player racing against the clock the problem is that a day passes every four seconds meaning that the player only 24 minutes and 34 seconds to finish game otherwise its gameover. I don’t know if this was some sort of sick joke by the developers but you can not expect children to have that sort of patience plus the game is really difficult to play with its dodgy controls and the enemies having an unfair amount of health compared to the player so these issues really don’t help.

image

Graphics

The enviroments and colours used in a lot of the locations in time lord are quite pleasent to look at I only wish that the screens wouldnt repeat most of the time and because of this I feel the game lacks in creativity, for example in the medieval stage you are on top of a castle but all you can see in the background is mountains couldnt the developers have had dragons flying around, castles within the mountain, wizards etc. Its the same with the western stage all you seem to do is pass saloons and other buildings you have seen 10 times already. I would comment on the other areas but to be honest my copy never seems to give me the final orb in this stage so ive never passed stage 2. The characters in time lord for some reason all seem to be one colour the most common being the colour red, you could argue that there may be some radiation in the future or say that the time lord altered history and caused all the characters to look like they are from the old nicktoons show Doug but I blame laziness?

image

Music

Time lord may be a pretty awful game but if there is one thing it does right its the music, the music in time lord is awesome. The tracks are really enjoyable and they suit the evironments perfectly which is a real shame because if the game was this good in all departments I can asure you it would have become an instant classic.

Final Verdict

Time lord was desperatly trying to be Doctor Who, it had a similar concept but it failed in almost all departments. Like I said the music is fantastic but that does not make up for the rest of the game, time lord is one big false advertisement, what you see on the cover art you dont get and the game is a cruel and broken mess and so I now have no choice but to give time lord the lowest score we here at Raggle Fraggle have ever given a game , I give time lord for the NES a 2/10 definatly a game to avoid.

How to do a Disney Night

This isnt an animated movie review but its a blog explaining this really awesome event me and my friends invented, the event is called disney night

image

So what is disney night?

Disney night is an event where you and your friends watch loads of disney movies

image

Now there is one rule to the movie selection, they must disney but they also must be animated disney movies the reason for this is because we as critics find there is more nostalgia in the animated classics than there is in the newer live action movies such as Pirates of the Carribean or the haunted mansion. You can however watch the live action movies if there are animated sections within the movie examples would be Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Roger Rabbit etc.

What do you need?

Disney

image

This one may seem kinda obvious since the event is called disney night, I suggest a large collection or that you at least have good broadband because If you don’t personally own any Disney DVDs you can at least stream them via the internet.

Alcohol

image

Having a good amount of alcohol is essential to a Disney night because even though it is fun to watch disney sober but its even more fun getting more and more drunk as each movie gets watched, oh and if your too young to drink really sugary drinks work pretty good also.

Friendship

image

I gather you all have friends, if not get some because the best part of Disney night sharing all of the experiences with eachother. I don’t know if your as big of a Disney fan as me and my friends but if you are I am positive you will love Disney night as much as we do because just like Disney its also pretty magical.

Why the banana is the greatest fruit ever

Now I will agree that most people including myself would much prefer any kind of junk food over a piece of fruit  but wouldnt fruit be so much more fun if as well as being a nutritious it could also be a great source of entertainment. Guess what I have found a way to make fruit time fun well with bananas any way.

image

So how fun and creative can you be with bananas well your gonna have to use your imagination if you still got one

Banana gun

image

Wanna play cowboys and indians but you don’t got a toy gun, no worries just go in the kitchen and grab a banana it looks great and goes well with cheesy lines like “whats the matter feeling yellow” and “why not make like a banana and split”

Moustache

image

Ever feel like you just can’t grow that manly moustache you have always wanted, maybe your too young or maybe you just can’t grow facial hair if so fear no more bananas have got you covered with the unique banana moustache, I asure you none of your friends have this, so get a banana moustache today. Available in almost all fruit bowls

Banana phone

image

Will your parents not allow you to have a mobile phone or grant you access to the landline. Why not just go grab a banana and pretend to call you friends, your imaginary boyfriend/girlfriend or your nan. Actually I wouldnt apparently talking to a banana is a sign of insanity

Shoes

image

Need new shoes but you can’t afford to buy a pair, why not slip your feet into some custom made banana shoes , they may feel all squishy at first but you will get used to them besides surely all that mushed banana will be good for your feet I hear their good for warts, blisters and scabs.

Eat

image

Once all your fun is over, its time to eat your delightful fruity snack, some like to pretend to strip the banana, some like to eat theirs with other fruits, pancakes or ice cream, me I like to devour mine like an angry werewolf

After you are done eating the banana maybe use the peel as a new hat

image

Actually on second thoughts don’t

Banjo Kazooie (N64) Review

I loved Rare Ware Studios as a kid because they were the gods of the video game industry creating games like wizards and warriors, battletoads, the donkey kong country franchise, conkers bad fur day, super mario 64, diddy kong racing and golden eye just to name a few. Rare Ware were known to make some of the greatest games of all time which is what made them so popular back in day. Sadly all great things come to an end and in 2002 Rare Ware Studios was purchased by Microsoft Corporation because Rare Ware no longer had Nintendo to help them out and was now in the hands of Microsoft not so great games got made like grabbed by the ghoulies and perfect dark zero and sadly Rare Ware have remained this way ever since.

I like to remember Rare Ware the way i did when i was a kid and what’s a better way to remeber them than reviewing one of the most popular and well known games they ever made Banjo Kazooie.

image

Story

The story to Banjo Kazooie is that the evil witch Gruntilda

image

Is angry because she is not the prettiest person in the land any more and has been told by her magic cauldron that Banjo’s sister Tooty is the most beautiful being in all the land. Because of this Gruntilda swoops down from her lair on her broom stick and kidnaps Tooty so she can swap her ugliness for Tooties beauty using a machiene she built. a lot of noise was made by both Gruntilda and Tooty which wakes Banjo and his pet bird Kazooie up, Banjo with Kazooie in his ruck sack rushes out to see what all the noise was about but little do they know of the adventure that lies ahead. The story may seem a little basic but trust me if you play the game you will reslise that the story is actually really clever and creative.

Game play

The way Banjo Kazooie works is that you play as both Banjo and Kazooie (they have these names because of the instruments they play). You use Banjo for basic things like punching, walking and swimming and kazooie for just about everything else. Both Banjo and Kazooie control satisfyingly for the most part, the game dosent lag at all and even though there are a lot of different moves in the game the button combinations to pull off these moves are easy to remember. One issue is the in game camera, the camera is fine when Banjo and Kazooie is on the ground but for some reason whenever I swim underwater or fly the camera just has a mind of its own and this can get annoying fast. The controls are not too bad I just wish that the camera issues when performing certain tasks were fixed before the game got released because if they were the controls would have been perfect.

image

Things to collect
There are a lot of things to collect in Banjo Kazooie which may seem like a bad thing but trust me it isnt because the game overly generous with these items locations.

Jiggy’s- To enter each world in Banjo Kazooie you will need fill in a picture of each world with jigsaw pieces AKA jiggies. Each world has 10 Jiggies to find and one switch you can hit which will release a jiggy in the games hub (Gruntildas Lair).

Eggs- ammunition that Kazooie can shoot from both his mouth and butt (OUCH sounds painful)

Red feather-these allow Kazooie to fly

Gold feather- these allow Banjo and Kazooie to be invincible for a limited amount of time

Notes- throughout each world the player is able to collect 100 musical notes, a certain amount of notes are needed to progress to the different parts of Gruntildas lair

Mumbo skulls- certain jiggies can only be collected if Banjo is tranformed into another animal, this can only happen if Banjo collects a certain number of mumbo skulls which he then needs to give to the voodoo master Mumbo who will turn Banjo into the needed animal form in exhange for the skulls he collected.

image

Jinjo- the final thing you need to collect in each world are these cute kangaroo things called Jinjo’s. There are five Jinjo’s to collect in each world and to my knowlege in order to actually defeat the final boss you need to collect all of them. The reason I believe you need to collect each Jinjo is because in everyone of my playthroughs of the game I collect all of the Jinjo’s and everytime they have helped me defeat Gruntilda.

Graphics
This game is beautiful I’m not even kidding for an N64 game every aspect of Banjo Kazooie is a piece of art, the textures really help enhance the wonderful environments in each world, the character detail is very impressive and overall the game looks better than some  modern games look today which is saying a lot since Banjo Kazooie came out in 1998. There are 9 worlds to explore in the game (not including the hub world or Spiral mountain). My favourite world in the game is called Freezeezy Peak its a Christmas themed world, its my favourite world because not only is it the best looking world in my opinion but it also has the best music.

image

Music

This game just keeps getting better and betted because even the music is kick ass,  its not often that the music in a video game suits the environments perfectly but just to add the cherry to an already perfect cake Banjo Kazooie manages to do just that. Its hard to explain why the music is so good but go and listen to the music from Freezeezy Peak, Gobi’s Valley and Mad Monter Mansion and you will see what I mean. If were not gonna get another decent Banjo Kazooie game a Banjo Kazooie soundtrack would be nice.

Final Verdict
From reading this review you can probably tell that I like this game, in my opinion its one of greatest video games of all time and highly suggest buying Banjo Kazooie because even though it has some camera issues it still is a really awesome game and because of this i rate Banjo Kazooie a 9/10.

What are pokemon?

I love pokemon and I think the concept of the games is genius having  players capture and trade monsters with other players all over the world, but have you ever tried to figure out just what the hell pokemon actually are because I am pretty sure they are not the creatures everyone foresees them to be.

image

I don’t recall this ever being explained in the countless animes that are still being made to this day and I’m sure fans have wrote many different theories of what pokemon are on the internet. Personally I dont have any theories of my own but have some ideas about what pokemon could possibly be.

1. Packets of data

Before pokemon hit the TV screens there was another anime which was just as popular until pokemon became the greatest thing ever and that show was called digimon.  Digimon which is short for digital monsters are packets of data which take the form of monsters which are used for both battling and to help people in general life. The size of a digimon has the same logic as a computer file size for example a small digimon would be a certain amount of mega bites, a larger digimon would be certain amount of giga bites etc. The reason I bring up this theory is because have you noticed that when the pokemon are sent out to battle or are returned to their balls they kinda get sucked in one pixel at a time and this could be because the pokemon are actually data packets and lets not forget that when they go to the pokemon center they are healed while they are inside their balls as if they are getting charged up like an electrical device.

2. Pokemon are a science experiment gone wrong

The best way I can explain this is by saying imagine that a scientist created a machine which could clone living creatures but they didnt want to test the machine on a human so they tested it on a mouse, during the cloning procedure something went wrong with the machiene and an electrical current was sent through the machine and because of this the end result was a mouse combined with electricity (Pikachu). This one is a little stretched but it could be something like this which could explain  why pokemon are the way they are, that scientist could have then gone on to combine other animals with other elements creating the other pokemon.

3. Pokemon is based in another dimension

The idea of various animals being crossed with the different elements may seem like some kids imagination or an LSD trip to our generation, but wouldnt the idea of pokemon make so much more sense if the show was based in completely different dimenson to one we live in, for all we know pokemon might be based in another dimension and we just don’t know it. The reason this would make sense is because we don’t know what other dimension are like for all we know there could be an entire dimenion that consists of elephants living how we do today.

I don’t know if what pokemon actually are has ever been explained but if it hasnt and your still trying to figure it out all I have to say is this, its a Japanese anime what do you expect

Saturday animated movie review: Walt Disneys Tarzan

Tarzan was the first movie I ever saw in the cinemas as a kid and it was also the first disney movie I had ever seen.

image

Tarzan is the story of baby who lived in the jungle with his family and at the same time some gorillas also had a baby. Sadly a cheetah kills the gorilla baby and it also kills baby Tarzans parents, the mother gorilla finds baby Tarzan abandoned and so she takes baby tarzan to her gorilla partner Curshak but sadly he dosent like Tarzan as much as she does. Later on the movie skips ahead a few years and we see that tarzan is now a young man, the movie than skips ahead a few more years and Tarzan is now an adult. This is where the movie kicks in as Tarzan meets the british love of his life Jane.

image

Jane had come to Africa with her father and the soon to be villain of the movie Clayton (I don’t know if their is any relationship between Clayton and Janes family) to see the Gorillas.

image

Like I said Clayton is not straight away the villain until we find out that he dosent just want to see the gorillas and he actually wants to shoot them so he sell their heads and fur for money and the lenghts he goes to, to try and suceed in this.

Tarzan may not have a bad ass villain song but it does have a bunch of amazing tracks by none other than the music legend Phil Collins, some really smooth and rather impressive animation  and in my opinion one of the best story lines in disney history. If you have not yet seen Tarzan then I reccomend that you watch it.

Paper Mario Sticker Star Review (3DS)

I love the Paper Mario games with one exception the Wii version (Super Paper Mario) but I will talk about that game some other day. The Paper Mario games are great for many reasons, they are full of hilarious comedy, they have epic story lines and most importantly they are really fun to play. With me being a big fan of the series I couldn’t resist but to buy Sticker Star as soon as I possibly could

ImageStory

The Story of Sticker Star is nothing of an epic tale which is a shame since other games in the series have had some really good story lines. The story line may not be epic but it’s not a terrible story line. The story is that the members of the mushroom kingdom are having their annual sticker festival which they have each year to celebrate to power of the royal stickers (five crown stickers which have the power to grant the wishes of the person who wears them).  When presenting the royal stickers Bowser gets his claws on one of them and the rest get blown away to other locations in the game. Bowser’s wish comes true and he becomes a super shiny sticker, he then kidnap’s Princess Peach and Mario has to save her.Image

Game play

The Paper Mario we all know and love is back, that’s right we have gone back to turn based game play with a little twist. We have gone back to turn based game play which is great but now we fight using stickers instead of using partners who have different abilities and powers and this works really well surprisingly.

It’s not just fighting you need stickers for in some cases in the game you will need to use stickers to communicate with certain objects communicating with these objects will either give you a new item which you can turn into a big sticker or you will need to communicate with certain objects in the game in order to continue.

You do not level up in sticker star which is unusual for a Paper Mario game instead you need to find health upgrades throughout the game to increase your overall health, you can get your health to a Max of 100hp and I recommend that you find all of these health upgrades because when you get to the Final boss you may need that little bit of extra hp.

Finally I want to talk about a certain type of sticker called a blue door sticker. Throughout the game you will find doors on objects but you are not able to access them. You are not able to access these doors because you need to buy some blue door stickers to access them, once you place a blue door sticker over the door you can then open the door and go inside. Inside these doors can be anything from money, sticker/objects or health upgrades. You will need to access certain blue doors in the game in order to continue but you can find them yourself.

Image

Apart from the story line the only other negative aspect to the game I can think of is that there are only 6 worlds and I can’t help but feel that there should be 8 worlds in the game.

Graphics

You’re going to want to crank that 3D right up for this game because the 3D really helps the game look amazing and it’s not the kind of 3D that hurts your eyes or makes you feel sick.  The game looks amazing, it’s full of colour, the characters and environments are smooth and at times it really feels like there is a real paper world in your hands, the 3D is perfect it doesn’t make the game look any different and it actually enhances the experience. I won’t say this too often when talking about 3DS games but if you get Sticker Star I recommend playing in 3D throughout the entire game.

Image

Music

My favourite Paper Mario soundtrack used to be from the thousand year door but now my favourite Paper Mario soundtrack is from Sticker Star. The music in this game is absolutely fantastic and so far some of the best I have heard on the 3DS. The music fits the characters and environments so well and just like the 3D it really enhances the experience. My favourite Piece of music is right at the end of the game before you go into Bowser’s Castle it is pretty much a rock and roll remix of the over world theme.

Final Verdict

If you like Paper Mario you will love sticker star and I highly recommend buying it. It looks and sounds amazing and finally turn based game play is back. Paper Mario Sticker Star is a hilarious adventure which can be loved by the whole family. The game may be amazing but there are a few issues I found with the game. The story line is basic and there are only 6 worlds in the game and for those reasons alone I am going to give Paper Mario Sticker Star a 8/10 the game had a few flaws but overall it is a very good 3DS title which is worth picking up.

Snow Sculptures of videogames

With Christmas so close now it only seems appropriate to do some Christmas related blogs. Christmas is quite an amazing day it is the birth date of Christ if you believe in that stuff and it is also a great time to get together with family, Open presents and maybe build a snowman or two. Everyone has built a snowman at least once in their lives but have you ever built a snowman of some of your favorite videogame characters because I sure haven’t. To start off the Christmas blogs and simply because I’m a nerd I have decided to choose 5 video game series and find my favorite snow sculpture I can find (all thanks to Google Images) for each of my chosen videogame series. The series I have chosen are Super Mario, The legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Kirby and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Yoshi

ImageThis wonderful Yoshi sculpture was actually part of an entire snow Mushroom Kingdom but I wasn’t able to show the others because they can only be viewed on flikr due to copyright which is fair enough. The rest of the sculptures include a Mario, Toad and a Koopa shell. Since I would have loved to have uploaded all if the images in the blog I will include a link which you will find underneath this part of the blog. I did find that my favourite sculpture was the Yoshi because the detail is almost perfect and you can see that it took the creator a long time to make the Yoshi alone and as well as creating the other sculptures.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/rgosling/4339007247/

The Triforce

ImageThese men are geniuses don’t make a snow sculpture of Link or Zelda no make a snow sculpture of the most important thing in the entire Legend of Zelda universe the Triforce. I really like this snow sculpture you can see that a lot of effort went into it and from the picture I gather they only just finished and its night time now that’s some nerd dedication. There is truly nothing off putting about this sculpture apart from what appears to be a dog turd underneath it but that doesn’t count.

Rayquaza

ImageOut of all the Pokémon snow sculptures I could find this one had to make the list because it is the most bad ass and best looking one I could see. This snow sculpture is of Rayquaza one a legendary Pokémon from Pokémon emerald.

Kirby

 Image

Ok so maybe this one is not as impressive as the other snow sculptures so far but it is the best Kirby snow sculpture I could find and it’s not that bad they got the body shape and the face right plus they even coloured the eyes and mouth in black to help give it more of a Kirby look and before you say Kirby is meant to be pink Kirby, Kirby was originally white and snow is also white so yeah a white Kirby but it’s still awesome.

Sonic the hedgehog

ImageSonic the hedgehog was the first video I ever played so only feels right for a snow sonic to be in this blog. I really like this sculpture because even without much of the detail the sculpture still looks really awesome, although it is worrying me that the snow is yellow let’s just hope that it is caused by street lights and not the other cause of yellow snow.

I hope you enjoyed this blog
