Netflix Original: A Series of Unfortunate Events Review

Let me be completely honest I was afraid for this show, an adaptation of the book series by Lemony Snicket had been done in the past in the form of a movie starring Jim Carrey and even though the film was somewhat entertaining and Jim Carrey gave one of the best performances of his career, the film was a terrible adaptation of the books and this was one of the many reasons why it bombed and none of the planned sequels were ever released.

This time the notorious Count Olaf is portrayed by the multi-talented actor Neil Patrick Harries who does a fantastic portrayal of the Count, Jim Carrey gave a more serious and sinister version of Count Olaf while Neil Patrick Harries gives a more silly and comical peformace while still managing to remain threatening and scary enough to help the show remain family friendly, the rest of the main cast are also very well portrayed and the actors and actresses who play each role put a lot of effort and love into their peformances, the show so far has shown a few other famous faces aside from Neil Patrick Harries including Patrick Warburton who plays Lemony Snicket and Joan Cusack who plays Justice Strauss, cast members who are less experienced in acting also do a fantastic job at playing their assigned characters but out of the entire cast my favourite actor was Louis Hynes who plays Klaus, i found that he was very similar to the character in the books and I cant wait to see more of his work in the later seasons.

Speaking of the books the TV show is such an impressive adaptation that I only noticed very few differences between the two, the first season of the show covers the first four books which are spread over eight episodes, at first I was concerned because I didnt believe that two episodes per book was enough to cover everything but I was wrong because now that I have watched the first season several times I have to agree that two was more than enough, the show is much more light hearted than the books which is understandable as the books can at times be a little much esspecially for very young readers but I honestly believe that it would be fine for any one to watch the show no matter what age they are.

It was very difficult for me to talk about this without giving away any spoilers but I am pleased that I got the chance to share my thoughts, if you would like to see the first review of the books I wrote you can do so by clicking on this link.

Gravity Falls Review

3190_gravity_fallsGravity Falls was a hit cartoon series created by Alex Hirsch for the Walt Disney Channel, it first aired in 2012 and it has now finally concluded at the beginning of 2016, the show about a brother and a sister spending the summer in a mysterious town became very popular amongst millions of viewers and Gravity Falls soon became known for its quality, I have now seen the entire series and I am ready to share my opinion.

Twins Dipper and Mabel Pines are spending their summer vacation with Stanley Pines (Great Uncle), They are spending the summer in a mysterious town called Gravity Falls, where Stanley is making them work at his business the Mystery Shack where he guides tourists through a fake museum of mythical creatures and mysterious artifacts, Dipper soon gets bored of this and decides to go and explore the town while his sister Mabel is seeking romance, Dipper accidentally discovers a Journal which is filled with mysterious legends and secrets which may help uncover the dark secrets and hidden mysteries of Gravity Falls.

Apart from the few episodes that really expand on the shows main plot, alot of the episodes can be watched out of order without many consequences as a big portion of the show is just Mabel and Dipper going on adventures and trying to resolve a problem they have discovered in Gravity Falls, most of these problems can be resolved by someone searching for the answers in one of the journals image

When the show does focus on the main plot its hard to not get glued to the tv, for a Disney Channel show it’s surprisingly addictive and many of the non plot themed episodes are full of cryptic clues to some of the towns mysteries image

All of the main cast are very lovable. but surprisingly almost every character in the entire show has a personality and some even have interesting backstories, personally my favourite character is Mabel Pines but my favourite background character is Blendin Blandin a time traveler you will meet in season 1

Gravity falls is one of the best looking children’s cartoon shows I have seen in a very long time, the animation is smooth and the pixels are at a minimum so the show looks absolutely flawless, I highly recommend watching it in HD so you can truly appreciate it’s beauty.

Overall Gravity Falls was one of best animated series I have ever had the pleasure of sitting down and watching, it is a little sad that the show has finished but I know for a fact that the fandom the show had brought together will be around for a long time.

Attack on Titan E25 Wall Assault on Stohess, Part 3

Spoliers !!!

The Epic battle between Erin Annie begins and while they are fighting we start to see flashbacks of Annie’s past, in these flashbacks Annie seems to be with her father and it appears that he may be the reason that Annie has the titan ability it all seems very similar to how Erin’s father gave him the titan ability, I wonder where Erin’s father is because we haven’t seen him since part 1.

Annie and her father flashback

Annie manages to beat Erin half to death by constantly smashing his head when he trapped in a corner and after he seems defeated she makes a run for the wall in an attempt to escape, but unluckily for her Erin gets back up and he appears to have gained the same amount of power as her, Erin’s eyes have now turned blue, he has strange red markings all over his body and he appears to be on fire, also his voice has now changed from Erin’s usual voice to something more dark and menacing.

Erins new titan form

Erin manages to tackle Annie just before she reaches the wall and he crushes her face with the fist of his new body, after all of this Annie still manages to get away and starts climbing the wall but luckily Mikasa swoops in and slices off all of Annie’s fingers making her fall to the ground, when Annie hits the ground Erin pounces in her and starts ripping her body to pieces like and animal on its prey, he finally sees Annie in her human form but he stops himself from killing her when he sees that there are tears streaming down her face.

Annie crying

In an unusual turn of events both Annie and Erin start to merge bodies which I’m sure would give some pretty awesome results but after realising how dangerous this could be Captain Levi quickly cuts Erin out of his titan body.

After rescuing Erin the scouts notice that Annie has cocooned herself in what appears to be the material that shielded her from attacks in the previous episodes, she also seems to be in a coma which is good because it means that she wont harm anyone but its also bad because now the scouts cant get any information out of her.

Annie’s Cocooned body is now under constant watch both day and night and the episode ends with a narrator telling us that “it would still take much sacrifice and time before humanity learned what it was that held them captive” and during this speech the camera zooms in on Erin’s body showing us the key to his dads basement.

This episode was great and a fantastic end to both part 2 and season 1 of Attack on Titan, it was surprising to see Annie having all of those flashbacks because it helps show that maybe she isn’t as bad as she is portrayed to be and it also shows that there may be a lot more people who have been given the titan ability, we haven’t seen Erin’s dad in a long time so maybe he is part of an organisation that secretly admires the titans and maybe that’s why he gave Erin the titan ability and it is also possible that Annie’s father may be part of this secret organisation as well.

I am certain that there will be a season 2 of Attack on Titan due to its popularity and its many unanswered questions, I cant wait until I can learn more about Attack on Titan and its many dark secrets.

Attack on Titan E2 That Day

Shorewood Blu-ray Ocard

Spoilers !!!

This episode was awesome, it follows the events of the last episode the Titans have now broken into the city and are starting to eat everyone they can find. Any survivors have to make their way to a boat which will take them to a new town where they can live safely from the Titans. Our main character Eren is sick and tired of hiding from the Titans and his emotions caused by his mothers death build up rage within him, Eren want’s to fight back against the Titans and nothing is going to stop him.

Times start to get really tough for the survivors, they are short on food and some how have to survive, I am curious to see how things will turn out.

I have no complaints about this episode it was perfect, this was definitely an emotional episode, you really feel for all of the characters and the troubles they are going through. I love it when anime takes a serious approach like this and so far i’m slowly falling in love with Attack on Titan because of this aspect.

Their was quite a few titans this time they all looked really cool but by far the most awesome was this giant Titan. Who barged into the town gate making the wall fall to pieces, it was really awesome.

This episode was great and the best part is that it was much easier to follow than the first episode, the emotional segments were really well done and everything fell together nicely. Attack on Titan Season 1 Episode 2 gets the full 5/5
