Hello and welcome to my first Rum review, I have recently discovered a love for all things Rum and Captain Morgans Original Spiced Gold was the first Rum I ever tried so it only seems fair that it be the first Rum that we talk about.
I payed 12 British Pounds for 700 ml of this Rum.
Before jumping into the review, a little on Captain Morgan, Captain Henry Morgan was a real pirate, according to the Captain Morgans website he was born in Wales in 1635, was given the title of Captain at the age of 27, he had been knighted in 1673 and died in 1685, of course this is just a few parts of his history but more can be read on the page of the Captain Morgans website.

Although If you want a more in depth look at the captains history I recommend this page on britannica.com

I love the bottle design of Captain Morgans from what I can tell all of the different types come in the same bottle but I specifically like the art work here and the texture of the label, to me the label has an old feel to it almost like a scroll or a piece of parchment, the bottle design is also quite creative, the captains ship on the back of the bottle is one of my favorite details.
The back of the bottle does not have too much information on it but one thing that does stand out is a small segment which reads “Buccaneer Henry Morgan, traveled across the Caribbean and became governor of Jamaica, enjoy the Captain Morgan original spiced gold that shares his spirit“.
Instantly upon pouring some rum into your tumbler you are hit with the heavenly smell of Vanilla, the scent is very sweet giving off vibes of hot vanilla cookies baking in the oven.
The flavor of the rum is also quite sweet and gives off less of a taste than the smell suggests, you can definitely taste the flavor of vanilla more than alcohol but the flavor as a whole is quite weak but still enjoyable.
I personally believe that Captain Morgans Spiced rum is best mixed with a beverage, in this example I used cola and will probably use cola for any future rum reviews, it is nice neat but the cola and the rum go extremely well together so I would definitely say that this is best used as a rum to mix with other drinks but apart from that 12 pounds is a really good price for what can be considered an enjoyable rum when you are on a tighter budget.
