The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom 2023 review

Six years ago the Nintendo Switch launched with what could only be considered one of the greatest videogames ever made Breath of the Wild.

This year we got gifted a glorious sequel which some how managed to to give us an ever better experience that expanded upon the original.

It’s no surprise that TOTK is easily one of the best games of 2023 but the question is why?

Years after the events of BOTW princess Zelda and her personal guard Link are exploring an underground cavern which has been corrupted by a poisonous substance known as gloom.

At the end of the cave is a rotting corpse of Ganondorf a Demon King from an ancient war.

The Corpse comes to life and uses the power of Gloom to destroy the legendary master sword, severely damaging Links right arm and almost killing him in the process.

Princess Zelda falls further into the depths beneath Hyrule Castle and link is rescued by an ancient disembodied arm which replaces his own right arm giving Link access to new abilities.

After awakening in the sky kingdom Link dives back into the world of Hyrule ready for a new adventure and to save Princess Zelda once again.

BOTW was developed to give the player unlimited possibilities about how they played the game, you could go anywhere from the very beginning.

TOTK takes what Nintendo did back in 2017 and somehow manages to triple it pushing the system to its absolute limits and giving us 3 entire worlds to explore Land, Sky and the Depths.

The world’s are massive and full of immersive and memorable content.

Starting with the land being where you will likely spend most of the your game time.

The land of Hyrule is the same basic layout we got in BOTW but this time is further expanded and has many significant changes to suit the new abilities and gameplay variants that came with this sequel.

I can best describe land gameplay as the Dark Souls of Nintendo. You start off weak and with no weapons, even the most basic of creatures can kill you with only one a couple of hits. After the opening area and tutorial you are left to play the game however you want.

You can freely explore the map and have little direction on where you can go or even where you should go.

The world of Hyrule is dangerous and you the player feel lost and unsure about how to start tackling it. One wrong move and you can find yourself running into giant monsters and secret mini bosses, being overwhelmed by enemy forces and hit with difficulty barriers that in most games would be off putting.

The beauty of TOTK is that during these moments you are free to simply go and explore somewhere else, go through caves, climb towers to unlock more of the map, complete quests, capture wild horses and most importantly conquer the hidden shrines.

The shrines are basically small puzzle dungeons that each offer a challenge based on one of Links unique abilities (more on those later)

Finishing a shrine will award that player an orb of light, you can donate every four of these you collect to shrine statues hidden throughout the game to upgrade either your health or your stamina allowing you to have a better chance of surviving those more difficult areas.

Another really important thing to consider is creating meals and elixers in order to recover hearts and enhance your resistance to certain elements, there are hundreds of variants you can create using the many ingredients and monster parts you collect in the game but the best recipes involve meat and fish allowing you to get the most out of heart recovery.

I actually have the cook book from BOTW it was a Xmas gift from my brother it’s custom made and generally a very cool collectors item let me know if you want to see me make and review some of these recipes in the future !

Side quests are of course one of the best parts of the game and are a nice distraction from all of the exploration you will be doing, always bringing a narrative as you progress through the main campaign.

AI in the game are much more immersive this time around commenting on in-game events as the main campaign progresses and the story moves forward.

You once again get a house but this time you actually get to fully create the thing including the layout. I never really got into this but I know a lot of players really enjoyed having a part of the game that was solely unique to themselves.

Modifications can also be made to your outfits by visiting great fairies who can increase defence and elemental resistance by offering them specific ingredients you collect throughout the game.

Horses can now be modified with the new stable points system, everyone you coat a stable you get one point and over time this will unlock rewards such as new saddles and other enhancements.

With its fully immersive map, challenging mini bosses and an entire world to explore full of secrets and other goodies the Land of Hyrule was for me the best part of TOTK but that doesn’t mean that the other tiers didn’t have anything special to offer as well.

The Sky was in my opinion a little underwhelming especially compared to the rest of the game as it is the smallest area but there is still plenty to uncover in regards to exploration, some hidden shrines are up here and certain quests to rely on the sky area for completion such as finding the slabs with ancient hyrulian text and of course the Sky Labyrinths which are connected to the on Land variant as well as the boss battle that follows ok the depths. The sky is also where you can find the majority of sundelions a flower which when used in recipes can give Link gloom resistance.

The Sky is also where you can use your new build ability to create useful flying machines but again more on this later on.

Finally let’s talk about Nintendo biggest kept secret in regards to this games development. the Depths!

So the Depths is basically an entire new map the exact the same size as the land.

When players enter the Depths they are surrounded by complete darkness, there is every eating gloom everywhere and enemies creeping through the pitch black and eerie atmosphere.

At first the Depths may seem almost empty when it comes to new discoveries but in reality it’s where you come across not only important plot content Including master Khoga and the impressive auto build ability but also fantastic outfits celebrating the legacy of past games. This is of course a massive celebration and some great nostalgia for fans of the series.

From speaking with a lot of gamers the depths is often considered the best part of the game and holds the most hidden secrets, unfortunately for me I just really couldn’t get on very well with depths, I found navigating the vast area really frustrating mostly due to high cliffs across the map blocking me off from reaching certain treasures, having multiple entry points and not much indication on the best ones to use for specific goals only added more complications for myself. But as I said I think this is more of a me issue as most players loved the depths so take my opinion on this with a pinch of salt as you very well may feel much different than I did.

Due to Links new hand a whole range of special abilities are available to help him on his quest through the layers of Hyrule, these all come in very handy especially when taking on the many shrine puzzles, my most useful ability was Ascend, originally staring out as a developers tool but later added into the game for players ease, you can now easily travel up through surfaces to reach higher platforms, this came in specifically useful for quickly exiting caves.

Other abilities include rewinding time, combining items to weapons in order to enhance and power them up, build is the first and most needed ability using this Link can pick up items and combine them to build structures and vehicles, early on this is pretty limited but in the late game creativity is encouraged and basically if you spend enough time you could build anything, it is really fun to build a motor vehicle and race throughout Hyrule providing you have enough battery power that is.

Fuse made the weapons last longer but also increased strength and was able to use elements to give us more damage against specific enemies, Fuse could also be used on your arrows and shields giving players plenty of ways to defeat difficult enemies and mini bosses.

Puzzles can now be solved in many different ways taking a whole new direction from the usual linear solutions we are used too from the past, with the new abilities and build mechanics this is truly the first Zelda game that can be played in anyway you wish, there is no correct way to do it making the players adventure much more personal and memorable.

TOTK is definitely an ambitious game when it comes to things to do and areas to explore, many players may even find it overwhelming, the beauty of the two most recent Zelda entries BOTW and TOTK is that you are encouraged to play and explore how ever you want too, with this is mind it should be noted that the game basically leaves you to discover areas and commit to your journey with very little guidance. It gives players a real sense of adventure and independence being able to commit to this in many different ways but on the flip side can also be frustrating and difficult if you prefer more linear videogames such as the Zelda home console games released between Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword.

In between side quests and Korok hunting it is still really satisfying and fun to capture horses and register them at the stables, stables have had a big upgrade here now offering multiple side quests and also unlockable upgrades for your horses including new saddles, hairstyles and other improvements.

Visually the game is absolutely gorgeous and really pushes the Nintendo Switch to its limits, it stills uses the anime inspired look from BOTW but enhances the colours and has a lot more details shown on weapons and armour.

TOTK makes many smaller improvements such as its use of shadows and water physics being a little more realistic on top of that a higher frame rate and faster loading times are extremely impressive in a game of this size.

The music is just as memorising and beautiful as before, orchestrated to perfectly suit the games fantasy setting and the sense of adventuring across the vast and dangerous world that is infected with gloom. Manaka Takaoka returned to compose the soundtrack for the game and they did an outstanding job of using music and sounds to bring so much more character and immersion to the games setting.

It’s really difficult to cover everything the game has to offer because there is just so much content here, I have only just managed to finish the immensely challenging final boss fight and haven’t got 100 percent completion with a final time of 150 hours! I feel I’ve barely even scratched the surface with exploration and finding secrets I’ve sunk so much time into the game but there is still so much more for me to discover, that alone should speak for itself in regards to replay-ability.

I only really have one true complaint with the game and that’s the sages. After finishing temples you get a companion which joins you for the remaining adventure, they each have a unique power so are useful during particularly complex battles. My issue was that it was rather difficult getting them to actually activate , they move around a lot and you have to get close in order to trigger them, if you take a hit while activated you got to start process over again. A simple fix would be to simply call upon them to activate perhaps from the character menu or with a controller shortcut, a nitpick for sure but still frustrating to say the least.

What else can I say about Tears of the Kingdom other than you need to play it!

Not only is this easily the best Zelda game ever made but I would argue it may be one of the most ambitious and well made video games of all time.

5 years ago we thought Breath of the Wild was going to be hard to top but we have been proven wrong.

What I would like to see in a future installment would be a new location and setting, Improved navigation for and mapping for the depths and easier use of the sages.

When it comes to rating it’s been quite difficult for me, so many call this game flawless but I did manage to find some issues even if they were somewhat personal.

The sages definitely needs work and I think many would actually agree if they played the game so we will keep that criticism.

The Depths is an area I didn’t enjoy, it was too empty and I found it frustrating to navigate due to how dark it was, I felt lost and with very little guidance but when you think about it that is the whole point of the depths.

I agree that I think me not enjoying the area is definitely a me issue than anything to do with game design or quality and most people I know it’s their favourite part of the game so I’m going to accept it for what it is.

With all that said and done I’m going to give a final rating of 9.9/10 for what is an almost flawless video game that came feel a little overwhelming at times but if you keep at it you are almost guaranteed to absolutely fall in love with it, I can’t wait to see what Nintendo does with the next major installment!

In the mean time there are still more of the older games in the series to cover and next up the Spirit Tracks so look forward to that when I get around to it!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U/Switch) Review

ZeldaEveryone on the internet is raving about the latest game in the Legend of Zelda franchise and its all for good reasons, Breath of the Wild was originally announced in 2012 when the Wii U was released and it had an expected release date of December 2013 but unfortunately due to development issues it got delayed multiple times before it was finally released to the general public five years later on March 3rd 2017 along side the companies latest gaming system the Nintendo Switch.

zeldabreath2-625x352So the reason a lot of people are falling in love with this particular game in the franchise is because when compared to the earlier 3D Zelda titles this is a brand new and unique experience, instead of the usual formula of controlling Link from the first dungeon to the last while following a linear path Breath of the Wild takes place in a free roaming environment and even though there is a main objective the player is encouraged to explore Hyrule to its limits in order to find secrets and gather side quests.

maxresdefault

Dungeons are now called shrines and are much shorter and simpler than usual, shrines are small puzzles that the player can try and solve in order to unlock new fast travel points on the in game map and along with this each shrine contains a Monk that will reward Link with a spirit orb once the shrines trial is completed.

zelda-breath-of-the-wild-shrines-trials-shrine-orbs-heart-containers-pieces-4857-14886479444

Link can trade every four spirit orbs he obtains for either a new heart container or  increased stamina by praying too one of the many goddess statues that have been placed throughout the world.

3085837-screen+shot+2016-06-23+at+5.50.35+pmThe shrines make up the bulk of the game and even though they are not necessarily important to the plot it is still highly recommended that you solve as many of them as you can in order to make the game a little bit easier,  if you would rather challenge yourself to a really difficult run of the game then you could skip all of them and remain at minimal health, however the first few shrines are forced upon the player as these shrines are needed in order to unlock runes.

zelda-breath-wild-runes

Runes replace the traditional items from previous Legend of Zelda titles and unlike the older Zelda games the runes in Breath of the Wild have an unlimited stock, these runes offer a number of abilities available to Link throughout the game including Magnesis which allows Link to pick up heavy metal items with ease, Stasis which allows Link to temporarily stop time, Cryonis which grants Link the ability to spawn large climbable structures of ice in watery areas and the remote bomb which is simply an unlimited stock of bombs that only explode when prompted by the player.

Finally the most useful ability in the game is the wind glider which allows the player too glide through the air with ease, this is useful when trying to reach areas that would be difficult to reach by other means, however the glider does use up Link’s stamina metre and therefore the player must use cation so that they don’t fall to a most unfortunate death.

There are a lot of things to do in Breath of the Wild and personally the best part of the game for me was all of the additional content other than the main quest, it is obvious that the developers took inspiration from other franchises such as the Elder Scrolls and Assassins Creed by adding the large open worlds, the ability to steal horses, climbing towers and other Buildings, needing to kill animals and collect plant life in order cook food so you can heal since the game does not use the usual system of collecting hearts from pots and bushes, Link can now buy multiple outfits to help him survive in different climates such as intense heat and freezing cold environments and on top of all of this the game even follows a similar system where your weapons and shields will break over time but unfortunately I can not recall any repair system in the game for fixing these broken weapons, thankfully there are plenty of replacements spread across the map so this wasn’t much of an issue for me.

the plot is very interesting to say the least and I really don’t want to talk about it in this review as a means of avoiding spoilers since the game is still essentially brand new, I will however say that it does still follow some of the traditional Zelda formula which is to be expected, Link still needs to defeat Ganon and save Hyrule but everything else that has been built around this allows the game too stand out as a very story driven game which may be the darkest the franchise has seen yet, this is the first time that Nintendo have added voice acting to the Legend of Zelda series and personally I hope it stays, I think they did a stellar job with the voice cast and unlike Super Mario Sunshine the voice acting here is not in the least bit cringe worthy.

maxresdefault (2)

Graphically Breath of the Wild is the most outstanding game in the series, Nintendo has really gone out of their way to make game feel real and alive, the original Wii U version pushes the console to its absolute limits and the final results are breath taking, this the cleanest and smoothest graphics you will ever see on the Wii U and it really is a shame that not many other games pushed the console for its visuals quite as much as Breath of the Wild does, the Nintendo Switch port has all of the vibrant colours and smooth textures of the Wii U version but pushes the visuals to look even better, more depth and shadow effects are added to the in game textures and other small details such as dust floating around the sandy areas of the game and snow falling from the sky help to bring more realism to the game, one issue I found was that occasionally during my play through the game suffered from lag spikes that really took me out of the experience and I believe that this was caused by the game trying to load too much at once, it should be noted that the Wii U version is known to have pretty horrendous loading times so keep this in mind.

2-1

I played the game on the Nintendo Switch and as can be imagined from Nintendo’s quality of service the controls were absolutely flawless, the clever thing about the Nintendo Switch is that it can be played both at home and on the go, the new Zelda is an amazing experience from the couch but every time I played the game while taking the bus or during long train journeys it was really difficult for me to see most of what was going on, the screen on the switch is way too small for a game of this size, it was difficult for me to read the map and plan routes and exploration is one of the biggest selling points of the game so I would recommend playing from the TV unless you have no other choice.

I have never disliked a Legend of Zelda soundtrack to this day and Breath of the Wild may have one of the best soundtracks yet, the entire soundtrack was created by Manaka Kataoka who had worked on previous titles in the series, there are a lot of points in the game that are silent and this is due to the player needing to listen for approaching enemies they may need to take care of as well as any wild animals that can be killed for food, I have linked the entire soundtrack above so please click play if you would like to listen to it.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is my new favourite game in the series which is something I haven’t been able to say since 1998, however the game is not flawless and I don’t think its fair to say its the best of all the 3D titles since it is so different from the previous games, I think it stands out in its own way as a unique and individual title and should only really be compared to the next Zelda game that follows this new formula, I had a blast  playing this game and the only real complaint I have are the occasional lag spikes which is why I wont be giving Breath of the Wild a full score.

it’s not perfect and it isn’t flawless but no matter what at the end of the day its still may be Link’s best outing yet.

9.7/10

It was very difficult for me too not give away any spoilers in this review so I hope you enjoyed it for what it was, it may be a while before the next Nintendo Switch review since the console isn’t even a month old yet,in the mean time there will be one more review coming out this month so I will see you then.

I hope you enjoyed my review of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U

If you respect my opinion, I will respect yours

DLC in Nintendo Games?

zelda_breath_of_the_wild_dlc_01

One of the biggest announcements for the new Zelda game coming out in the next couple of days was that Nintendo is adding Downloadable content which is a first for a main series Zelda title, as you can imagine this announcement has split fans, some people including myself couldn’t care less but others have been cancelling their pre-orders for the game.

download-1

First of all this is not the first time Nintendo has added DLC to their games, they added new tracks and characters to Mario Kart and new stages and fighters to Super Smash Bros Wii U/3DS, I don’t recall so many people complaining when DLC for those games were announced but to be fair Breath of the Wild is a bit of a special case because not only is it a single player experience but Nintendo announced DLC before the game had even been released which lets be honest was a fairly stupid move on Nintendo’s part.

facepalm_id_by_urkel8534

So whats my stance on this whole DLC malarkey? well like I said I don’t care about DLC in general and it isn’t likely that I will buy DLC for any games that are not Mario Kart or Splatoon, I don’t agree with any first party single player games having DLC (Zelda, Mario, Metroid and so on) but I can understand paying to add new content in multiplayer games at a reasonable price of course, I feel that having DLC in single player games takes away a lot of the fun, I remember when I was younger you could unlock additional content in games by performing certain tasks, I will still never forget the first time I unlocked the original Prince of Persia game in the Sands of Time.

On a final note though I will say that we shouldn’t look at Nintendo as if they are different to every other game company in the world, yes they are late to some of these awful video game practices but every other company has been doing it for years and we all seem ok with them so why shouldn’t we give Nintendo the same respect and just accept the changes they are wanting to make, even if we don’t particularly agree with those changes.

Either way in only two days we will all be able to play on the Nintendo Switch and I personally cannot wait to run around Hyrule again without the dumb expansion packs.

I hope you enjoyed this semi rant

That’s it for Nintendo Switch Content now until we eventually get around to Reviewing Breath of the Wild which I’m hoping to have reviewed by the end of April depending on how long the game is.

The top 5 unannounced games I want for Nintendo Switch

nintendo-2

The Nintendo Switch is officially less than 10 days away from release and while there are a lot of games which have been announced I am only genuinely excited for three of them, those being Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and of course the long awaited Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but what about the games that haven’t been announced?

These are the 5 games I want to be announced for the Nintendo Switch…..hopefully at E3

HD Remakes

f950cb4be916e5e401868929870ab888

Lets get the boring one out of the way first, Nintendo are great at making new games and expanding the universes of their video game characters but I still want to see more of their old games getting remade with modern graphics and controls, we all want Mario Sunshine and Luigi’s Mansion HD and so do I but I think some of Nintendo’s older titles would benefit from HD remakes, imagine being able to play Mario 64 in 1080p and without the dodgy controls and what about a HD remake of Donkey Kong 64 or Pilot Wings, there are a lot of titles that would be great as HD remakes but for me personally I would like to see a HD Metroid Prime Trilogy or HD Pikmin and Pikmin 2.

Animal Crossing

animal-crossing-640x336

This November will mark the fifth anniversary of Animal Crossing New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS, I think its time for a brand new Animal Crossing game and what better system to do this on than the Nintendo Switch, honestly I have never enjoyed the handheld Animal Crossing games as much as the ones released on stay at home systems and if released on the switch an Animal Crossing game would suit what I want and it could also be played as a handheld game for those who prefer playing on the go, so everyone wins however there are some major changes I want made to the series, first of all I want more creativity when it comes to building your town and by this I mean that players are able to build the islands themselves from the ground up also I think at this point we should be able to play as an animal if we want too, how about a character building mode where we can create our own characters in very unique and creative ways, I wont go into too many details on this as it may become an article of its own at some point.

Pikmin 4

wiiu_pikmin3_scrn14_e3resized

Ok so Pikmin 4 has technically been announced for years but it hasn’t been announced for the Nintendo Switch so I still think this counts, I love cute things and the Pikmin games are no exception I like how Nintendo have taken a subject as dark as the extinction of the human race and made an adorable game series where you play as space captains who run around earth and control strange plant creatures to collect fruits and relics that have been left behind by humans, I haven’t gotten around to playing the third game yet but its on my to do list but in the mean time I hope Nintendo hurry’s up with Pikmin 4.

F-Zero

66582-f-zero_gx-3

I think Mario Kart is a great game series but we get one or two of those every year, but we havent had an F-Zero game  since 2003, for those who don’t know F-Zero is a fast paced racing game that takes place in space, the games went on to spawn an amazing anime series and F-Zero was one of the biggest inspirations for the Hovercraft’s in Mario Kart 8, I don’t know why this series stopped but many would agree that it needs to return in big ways.

Luigi’s mansion 3 plus a Dark Moon Port

236203_scr7_a

I loved both of the Luigi’s Mansion games and I would really like to see a Luigi’s mansion 3, the changes I want to make in these games may surprise you but I think they could work, first of all I want Mario out of the game completely I think Luigi’s brother gets enough of the spotlight already, I want multiple playable characters which all have unique abilities and must be switched constantly to solve puzzles, some ideas of characters could be a toad, Luigi (obviously), Professor E-Gadd and Princess Daisy, also a new and more menacing villain and a scarier premise, that is my dream Luigi’s Mansion game and although I cant imagine this will ever happen I will still want a Luigi’s Mansion 3 and I know a lot of you guys do too.

Those are the top 5 games I want announced for the Nintendo Switch

Which games are on your list

The Pros and Cons of the Nintendo Switch Live Presentation

maxresdefault

We are officially only three weeks away from the release of the Nintendo Switch and in celebration every week up until the release I will be releasing articles expressing my excitement for the system.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntzz8O7SpWs

On the 12th of January 2017 Nintendo released an hour long presentation discussing important information about their new system, I have watched the presentation multiple times and although I am very excited about the new console I do feel that Nintendo have made some rather critical mistakes.

cry610

Lets start by going over what I consider to be the most disappointing parts of the presentation

Here are the Cons of the Nintendo Switch

nintendo-switch-launch-titles-1024x512

  • Apart from a couple of games the launch line up is not very exciting
  • At the moment games are very expensive, you wont likely be paying less than £50 for a game and some games cost even more
  • Accessories are also ridiculously over priced but to be honest Nintendo have never had great deals on their accessories.
  • There is only 32GB of internal storage but you are able to expand the storage by inserting a micro SD card
  • The battery life while you are out and about is between 2-6 hours which isn’t great but could be much worse
  • Only 1080p resolution on the TV and 720p on the tablet, may not seem like a huge deal but when compared the competition this is fairly low
  • No pack in game comes with the system
  • You need to pay to play online now
    download

With the worst out of the way, I can finally talk about the Pros of the Nintendo Switch

  • The price of the system is only £279.99
  • The release date (March 3rd 2017) is earlier than we expected
  • Lots of third party developers are creating titles for the system
  • For the first time ever Bethesda Game Studios are developing for the switch,The Elder Scrolls Skyrim is being released on the system

arms-nintendo-switch

  • Two brand new IP’s were announced, out of the two IP’s that were announced the most exciting for me was ARMS, ARMS is a non traditional boxing game that uses extendable arms to fight, it looks really cool and I am really looking forward to playing it
  • A sequel to Splatoon was announced
  • A brand new 3D sandbox Mario game was announced, Super Mario Odyssey has not had too much information released about the new game but we do know that it has a release date of Holiday 2017
  • A direct sequel to the ever so popular Xenoblade Chronicles was announced, Xenoblade 2 will be released sometime this year
  • Hyrule Warriors fans will be pleased to know that a Fire Emblem Warriors game is coming to the Switch
  • A HD port of Mario Kart 8 is coming in April, it includes all previous DLC, A brand new Battle Mode and new characters and tracks
  • Breath of the wild has a brand new trailer complete with voice acting and a release date of March 3rd was announced meaning that Zelda will be there for the launch of the system

So that was a basic breakdown of what I consider to be the best and worst parts of the Nintendo Switch Live Presentation, Next week I will be discussing the top 5 games I want for the switch which have yet to be announced.

I hope you enjoyed my look at the Nintendo Switch Live Presentation

Lets Take a Look at the Nintendo Switch Preview Trailer

Not a Halloween review, there will be another spooky review but regardless of the fact that its October I feel a need to discuss this, Its important for all nerd kind

20-nintendo-switch

This is it, It’s finally happened Codename NX has been revealed and I am so excited I can hardly contain myself,

Link  to the Reveal Trailer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3c6MWsEE884

We still don’t know everything about Nintendo’s newest system but we have just been given a lot of important information, first of all the name is not going to be the Nintendo NX but it is instead called the Nintendo Switch.

outside-play

The reason for this name is because you are going to be able to play the system at home and on the go, sort of like a handheld/home console hybrid, included in the reveal trailer were a few unseen clips of the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and from what I have seen so far the game looks amazing.

cartridgeThe screen shot here confirms the use of cartridges over the more modern Blu-Ray Disks we use for most consoles today, for old school gamers like me who grew up playing cartridges this is very exciting news but for more modern gamer’s it may be a little bit too unusual but have no fear because not only can cartridges hold much more data than a Blu-Ray Disk but they are also incredibly cheap to make which may mean that Nintendo Switch games may be sold for a lot less than games were for the Wii U, however cartridges are no where near as fast to load up as a Blu-Ray Disk so speed may be an issue for the new system lets just hope that the Nintendo Switch has a good processor and a lot of Ram to make up for this, the use of cartridges does make it extremely unlikely for backwards compatibility with the Wii U but it is possible that maybe we will able to play our 3DS games on the Televisioncontroller-on-the-go

From this picture we can see that we will be able to detach the sides of the gamepad to use them as controllers when we are playing on the go, to me it looks as if it is going to be a similar set up to a Wiimote and Nunchuck but the entire thing will be wireless and of course the button layout will likely be different, also it is shown here that the Nintendo Switch gamepad will have a feature on the back which can help stand it up right so we can relax on the train/bus while we are playing.

elder-scrolls

As you can see he is now playing on his TV and he is able to switch from TV to on the go mode whenever he wants, just so you are aware he is currently playing an Elder Scrolls game, I am not sure whether it is Skyrim Remastered or an upcoming game in the series but that is not important, what is important however is that this is a very good sign that we will see a lot of third party support.

mario-kart-switch

A new Mario Kart or a port of Mario Kart 8? who knows but still very exciting none the less

sports-titles

Possibly a reveal that the more popular sports games are coming to the system? not my thing but I am aware that there is definitely a massive market for these titles.

mario-bros-switch

Is this a teaser for Super Mario run that is to be released on the smart phone market soon or is it a teaser for an upcoming Mario adventure? the Amiibos on the counter seem to indicate that Amiibo compatibility with the system will be available in the future.

pro-controller

This is a screen shot taken of what I am assuming is to be the new Pro Controller, I personally do not like the design here, to me its looks ugly and boring so I am hoping that it will be more colourful and appealing to myself in the future.

splatoon-switch

I’m not sure if this is the original Splatoon or not but it definitely looks cleaner and graphically improved so it could possibly be a sequel.

stadium

The weirdest part of the Splatoon reveal was that it seems like it was played in a stadium and I don’t recall hearing anything about an event like this so I am certain that this part of the reveal was made using CGI but I could be wrong.

With a release date of March 2017 that is everything we know about the Nintendo Switch so far, it looks very promising but I do wish that Nintendo at least gave us an idea on the price since the system is only 5-6 months away from release it just seem like now would be a great time for this information to be released, to be honest we should able to pre-order the system by now but that is the only thing that’s really bugging me about the trailer.

I hope you enjoyed my look at the Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer
